In the 80s the show Valerie became The Hogan Family once Valerie Harper left the show. Maybe they could kill her off and it becomes "The Connor Family".

Why was Roseanne cancelled? I don't really get it. Thought it was a ratings smash.

Her character was about to get surgery. They could have just had the surgery go wrong.

The only thing better is the Conservatives trying to get revenge by having Bill Maher fired for comparing Donald Trump to an orangutan. It's like they live in a bubble.

Well, I don't watch it. All I've seen is a story saying it's cancelled, and another story weeks ago saying it was a ratings smash. I thought someone might explain what led to its cancellation.

Also don't get I've just seen a third story saying Wanda Sykes won't be returning for season 2. I don't get this either. If it's cancelled, how is there a season 2?

Wanda announced her departure a few hours before ABC cancelled it.

They cancelled it because Roseanne, who is a known racist/anti-semite, said some racist things on twitter.

Ah, thank you. So it was on Twitter. I've been thinking it was some that happened on the show. I suppose those posts are taken down now. Do you remember what the posts said?

This one. VJ is referring to a former Obama aide, Valerie Jarrett.

She's the typical older white female. I assume she watches Fox News nonstop, and it just completely ingrained in the hard right.

Trump has a point, there's been plenty of derogatory comments made about him (and others), "jokes" in relation to people's appearance that could be deemed offensive. I do wonder if Rosanne was on another network like CBS/NBC/FOX where the boss isn't a black woman, the show wouldn't have gotten cancelled and Rosanne just would've only needed to issue an apology.

There's a bit of a difference between criticizing/mocking someone's chosen appearance/things they say or do and doing so in regards to their race/ethnicity/sexuality/other non-chosen aspects of life.

Wanda Sykes and others have called Donald Trump an orangutan . George w. Bush a chimp/monkey. Definitely a double standard.

Yeah, but black people know they look like monkeys more than white people, so they are easier to get offended. Add that to the white guilt culture and it's no surprise there's a double standard. Plus, the president receiving an insult as the big boss of the country is like water off a duck's back. The downtrodden urban classes getting insulted...their tether is much shorter.

I never watched Roseanne, attempted the original run when I was younger, but never really liked it. No idea Roseanne was such an unpleasant person anyway either.

Cancelling a show because of lead's misbehavior goes a bit far, can imagine you're taking a break or something, you'd have to probably. But especially if the show was popular cancellation doesn't seem to make sense, firing the lead would of course if they go out of bounds to much.

Whether Roseanne did, I'm not sure, there's two sides to every coin, but it feels that it was not an isolated thing anyway. With everything you gotta look at the big picture.

And in terms of insults, it all depends on the why, how, what and if on deciding what could be tolerable or not.

ABC is exploring whether to revive Roseanne without her in it, the issue being they don't want her to make any money off it so it might have to be a show with the same actors but a different name

So petty and touchy.

Don't run for public office (especially powerful position) if so easily offended.

Roseanne was watched in my house when I was younger. At least a bit. I remember it being on. But it wasn't political in the slightest. It was just watched along with a ton of other US shows, such as The Cosby Show, Happy Days, Mork and Mindy, etc. And I'm pretty sure they were all just on in the background.

And cancelling a show because of one person's behaviour is silly. It completely disregards the rest of the crew, and actually just shows that that one person is very powerful. If that one person is such a negative force, surely cancelling the show gives it even more power. But anyway.

This is not a proven fact and I believe it is not always true. What is true is, because of the show, Roseanne the person has gained popularity. We will see if Roseanne the person will still be widely talked about at all after a few months.

Reviving Roseanne without Roseanne sounds ideal (she's the weakest link of a largely solid cast, led by Laurie Metcalf and especially John Goodman), but I'm not sure if it works without her either. If she wasn't batshit crazy and self-destructive, it was perfectly fine seeing a voice for Trump on the show. It was a nice counter-balance to everything else. If it shifts to Sara Gilbert, I don't think interest will be even a tenth as high as before.

But it's not fair to them either that they get punished for her thinking she can say what she wants. Her and those like her think they can finally say what they've wanted to say for years without repercussions. You can't. Free speech allows you to say what you want, but it doesn't mean you can profit off those ridiculous comments and tweets that are probably throwaway in her mind but are not for everyone else.

I watched the latest season and enjoyed it. But I think they have to think long and hard if the show works without her. Audiences flocked to it because it had her Republican voice in there. And I have no issue with that. And it will feel contrived if they had a new character with the same political views as her.

Doing the show without her would be solely to stick it to her. Childish.

Is Ghosted not officially cancelled? I noticed two episodes on my PVR for this coming Sunday, and forgot all about it. According to Wiki, it's not cancelled, but it can't be long for this world.
