That's kind of what I was getting at. There were a lot of deserving actresses the past six years. But Julia deserves the wins. It's not like Modern Family or Jim Parsons where one more victory is in the "OK, that's enough" category.

Although rumour is that Veep (and Better Call Saul) will sit it out next year and won't be back in time for next year's Emmys.

Thats a kind of BS response. Everyone nominated deserves it. And While the show wouldn't exist without her, it's not like it's ever the best show on TV.

Veep is that "We need the award" show. That's the only way the show has any publicity. When it's looked back on, it's not like JLD in Veep is even going to be in the top 100 most important characters. The Emmy's are such a joke now. It's like the film last year that won best picture and no-one had ever seen it and no one ever will. She will always be known for Elaine and breaking the Seinfeld curse. Yet Candice Bergen will always be remembered for refusing anymore Emmy nominations for Murphy Brown.

Ummmmm, Selina Mayer is one of the best comedy characters ever. So you're dead wrong about that.

And about The Handmaid's Tale - that show starts out good, but halfway through it turns into a soap opera of lost husbands and sex. It doesn't really go after its central premise of a society gone wrong at all. There are casual glimpses into a much interesting story (Janine's story is infinitely more interesting and much more connected to the perversity of the new social and political system THT presents than Offred's story is). So it does feel more like a political win.

And while Ann Dowd was really menacing as Aunt Lydia in THT, Thandie Newton deserved Best Supporting. Her character is so unique and she did every second of it perfectly. That was pure robbery at work.

Yeah, but it's still mostly reruns. Can't wait for shows to come back and new ones to premiere. The first few weeks are most interesting.

The Good Place and Gotham start the next two nights so that's probably the start of relevant ratings

Because she is still relevant. in 10 years if someone says JLD, there's a good chance that character will be third after Seinfeld and SNL. Barely anyone watches the show. it gets about 500k viewers. shows on youtube get more than that now.

I'm glad Emmys are not a popularity contest. That's exactly how it should be.

I doubt she will remember for SNL. I forgot she was even on there and have a pretty good memory. She must have been pretty forgettable on there.

Considering that her being the first women cast member to come back and host was the biggest episode ever of that year, was one of shows biggest milestones, and she consistently in the top women of SNL for interviews, especially during the Dick years. I'd say you're flat wrong. That just like Veep however over time is always overshadowed by Elaine. And rightfully so, it's not a knock. Michael Keaton will alway be Batman, doesn't mean he hasn't done greAt work outside of that

JLD's legacy will be Seinfeld, I don't think enough people watch Veep and it's not a Mad Men in terms of critical reverence

Actresses can be known for more than one role?

This is like arguing that Indiana Jones isn't that iconic of a role for Harrison Ford because everyone knows him as Han Solo.

Post subject:  Re: The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards

What???? No one would ever argue that.

Well that's a moronic comparison. Veep will never and has never hit the spectrum of Seinfeld or SNL.

And when did I ever say an actor can't be known for more than one role. All I'm saying is that without the Emmy wins, Veep would never be in the public eye, just to hardcore fans. It's ratings are terrible and would have been cancelled long ago without the wins. It has nothing to with her being "One of the most important females roles on TV" she may very well be, I'm just saying that despite those wins, she will always be known for Elaine. And the Emmys aren't what they used to be, it's a simple tool for selling advertisement these days.

I think only a SNL fan would remember for that. I doubt mainstream audience would even know. The only reason I put Veep above it because of the emmys and the pop culture references.

I'm a pretty big fan and know a lot of SNL's history, and even I am surprised for a second or two to be reminded she was on SNL in the 80s.

SNL is only for Americans anyway.
