Random thoughts:

-Absolutely shocked that they snubbed Rhea Seehorn, Mark Margolis and especially Michael McKean. McKean was a lock to win that, and they didn't nominate him? Tragic. He gave what I thought was one of the best performances of either Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. No offense to the incomparable Jonathan Banks, but he didn't have a standout moment.

-This is Us scored some good nods (Brown, Ron Cepha Jones, Ventimiglia) and some questionable choices (Metz over Moore?). I wonder if the train will keep rolling in Season 2, or if this will be a one standout season type of show.

-SNL got a ton of love. I get Alec Baldwin getting nominated, but for Supporting? That's kind of a kick in the face for the guys that are there as cast members. That Vanessa Bayer nod is really cool though. One of the most underrated players of the past five years, who was constantly eclipsed by Kristen Wiig or Kate McKinnon. Also, I like Leslie Jones, but she's not even the best other SNL cast member to get a nod here. Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant are consistently better.

-The long national nightmare of Fallon recognition is over. Snubbed him for Tonight, and for his hosting gig on SNL (he was always nominated for that). I can't help but think some of it has to do with his normalizing Donald Trump with his softball interview last year.

-Love the Stranger Things nods, but... Barb? Really? I didn't really get the intense Barb love when it aired, but I accepted it. A nomination though?

-Modern Family? We're going to keep this up, Emmys? Season 8 was maybe one of the worst seasons of any show. A few rare laughs surrounded by groan-worthy comedy.

Well Barb is just nominated for Guest actress. How hard is it to get nominated for that?

Glad with all the love Westworld, This is Us and Master of None got...I feel though, this hasn't been a very strong year of television, especially considering the last few years before.

Great for Big Little Lies of course but I'm disappointed by no love for Gilmore Girls or 13 Reasons Why (Langford and Walsh deserved nominations).

When considering the drama shows I feel none of them is strong enough to built somewhat of a legacy like True Detective, Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones have done in recent years.

True Detective crashed and burned halfway through season 1 and nearly everyone agrees season 2 was a complete mess - even HBO still doesn't know when season 3 will come out, they also don't know how to approach it. A lot of people will say Breaking Bad didn't become really great until season 3.

So considering most of these shows are newbies I don't see why you're being so stuck up and claim they don't feel strong enough (to you that is) to build a legacy when they actually just started out. If anything Stranger Things managed to build such a huge buzz for a genre show in one season (basically in just a few days since it premiered) which I personally don't think any of those shows you mentioned did in years of them being on air (besides GoT, which is another genre beast unlike any other before). I don't remember seeing Mad Men, Breaking Bad or True Detective getting so much buzz for a character who's in the show for not even 15 minutes and turn it into one of the most recognizable characters of the whole year and get her an Emmy nomination among far more well established names?

Yeah, so I have more of a feeling the current Emmy's are a line-up of upcoming shows that might become remembered at some point but are not now. House of Cards could have some cred, but I hear people saying this was actually a weak season. And Stranger Things, from reviews I've read, it's good not great...I haven't seen it myself, as 80% of the other shows nominated, so I understand I shouldn't be talking in this thread.

Big Little Lies definitely deserves its noms too btw.

He was talking about "legacy" which does include collective opinion as without collective approval/love there is no real true legacy that will carry on for years and years to come. That's why small shows like Freaks and Geeks still have much bigger impact and legacy than some huge hit shows (90% of CBS procedurals for instance) that went on for years and years. But I don't expect you to understand the bigger picture anyway. For you it's just "I". Nothing else.

I feel like this is Better Call Saul's best shot at winning Drama and it probably won't without nods for McKean and Seehorn. Game Of Thrones likely has at least one of the next two locked up, if not both. It'll have to pull a Breaking Bad and end spectacularly.

Better Call Saul feels like an obligatory nod to continue the Breaking Bad honor. I don't think it has any shot at winning. Westworld, Stranger Things and The Handmaid's Tale are the frontrunners. This Is Us being the sole broadcast network drama nominee in the last 6 years gives it also a slight push and puts it in front of Saul.

Yeah, at this point whenever GoT is nominated it will win. So this is the best chance these dramas will get

I don't know I agree that Saul is an obligatory nod. It's an excellent drama. It's harder to compete with more riveting, high-concept shows. Even Breaking Bad was more riveting and high-concept than Saul, but Saul at its core is an exceptional drama series.

I don't watch Saul, so I can't comment on its quality, but from the "buzz" angle it doesn't seem like it's doing much on its own. Most people still see it as BB spin-off. That's the reason why I think that it still shows up in BD category. If BCS was a completely new show I don't think it would be in the talks at all. Heck if GoT was in the mix I could easily see it dropping out of the category.

The Good Place got snubbed and there are some silly noms in there. Mostly this is a great list though. Kimmy and Westworld have easily been the best shows of the last year and I'm hoping they get the big wins.
