Post The Magicians (Syfy)

I was not incredibly impressed by this series' advertising, but one of my favorite up-and-coming directors, Mike Cahill (Another Earth, I Origins), directed the pilot, so I watched it. And I dig it so far. I have a few notable qualms—the so-chic-so-disillusioned vibe of the characters can feel more practiced than poignant—but the storytelling is mostly involving, the world building is fun, and co-star Olivia Taylor Dudley is absolutely gorgeous. I will give it a whirl for a while.

And I broadly respect Syfy trying to up their game in regard to original scripted content. It seems well-timed, if not overdue.

I didn't watch it, but the ads intrigued me. Might check it out.

I liked the first two episodes. I like that scyfy is trying to attract younger audiences that are looking for a hit of Potter.

Blonde girl is wicked hot too.

This show went to some unexpected places in the last few episodes. I also like the random humor like book sex and "Shake It Off" sing alongs. I'm really into it!

Will catch up on this over this weekend. It says The Magicians US, was there a UK series for this?

I love this series now. It has improved since the start and is incredibly fun. The Antarctica-set episode is my favorite of the season so far.

Yeah that episode was great. Hope they have more episodes like those where they actually show them learning magic.

The latest episode did show them learning magic but it ended with a weird twist. The mystery element is not really that strong in this anymore and it seems to self-serious.

Just started this on Netflix. Enjoying it so far. It's really catered to older Harry Potter fans so I'm having fun with it.

I'll watch the second season. The first got a little too odd towards the end. They spend the whole season building the Alice and Quentyn ship and he cheats on her almost immediately. Then they build up the author as Fillary as the big bad, an interesting take on never truly knowing your idols. But nope. I'm not a fan of twists for the sake of twists.

I'm on episode 11 of the first season. At first I was really iffy about it because of pacing and tone but it's getting more interesting.

The second season is strong and entertaining so far. Very of a piece with the first in regard to aesthetic, tone, etc. The Beast is a fun antagonist.

This show has taken The Leap this season and I'm thrilled for it. It's too bad three great characters had to die, but I like that we got a season finale in episode 3. The unconventional storytelling has bothered, as it seems to make the show aimless and anarchist. However, they've spun everything I've disliked in the past into atleast a decent ending. I found Elliot and Margot annoying through most of season 1 and now they're the best characters.

Elliot and Margot using pop culture references for secret conversations, with subtitles, was awesome. :funny: :funny:

So didn't like Season 2 as much as the first. Let's hope it gets better with Season 3.
