Post subject:  Pilots from FOX for next season

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/newswire.cgi?id=6897

There are pics and brief descriptions of 20 FOXs pilots for the next season. Let's make our guesses at what will survive and what will die (but considering they're premiering on FOX mots of these shows will probably end up cancelled).

I'm using the following remarks:
Hit
Solid
Flop

Amy Coyne
There's not much about to talk about this one. The cast looksgood, the premise is nothing special. I don't think I would watch this. It could do good.
Solid/Flop

Bones
CSI clone. But it does sound a little more character oriented than CSI frachise. I'd watch this. I think this will do good. David Boreanaz could bring a lot of ''Angel'' fans.
Solid

Briar & Graves
A dumb name for a show with such religious premise. It's almost like ''The X-Files'' was named ''Mulder & Scully''. This could be a cult hit, and ''Briar & Graves'' is not a name for a cult hit.
Solid/Flop

Deviant Behaviour
I like the name of the show, it would be cool if the cops were a little deviant themselves, like in ''The Shield''. I'd like to see this.
Solid

Dirtbags
This just sounds like a BIIIIG disappointment for FOX. Their recent comedies have been lame, and this could join the bunch.
Flop

Don't Ask
Another lame comedy for FOX.
Flop

Fertile Ground
This sounds good. I'm interested in how this series will develop the premise. Not much to do in fertilization clinic. It's not like the ER, there isn't a wide range of medical things to show here. This could be a very character oriented show, and could philospohe on human life, ...
Solid

Head Cases
The cast looks awful. I don't like one single face there. This could be a good dramedy looking at the preise, but overall I think it will do very bad.
Flop

Hitched
With Spellings name on board the show will probably be lame and unwatcahble but like all others it will do good numbers.
Solid

Kitchen Confidential
It looks like a great cast, plus Nicholas Brendon is here, he was a great comic relief in Buffy, so I think he'll be great here also. I think this will be FOXs bets comedy next year.
Hit

The Loop
FOX entered in the loop of bad comedies, and this one doesn't sound much different.
Flop

Murder Book
The name is good, but the premise is nothing special. Although it could turn out to be a good show.
Solid/Flop

New Car Smell
Flop (the name says it all...)

Peep Show
Flop (the name says it all...)

Pool Guys
Flop (the name says it all...)

Prison Break
This is the show I expect to be great in every aspect. It has potential.
Hit

Queen B
This could be funny. Plus I always liked Alicia.
Solid/Hit

Reunion
That part mystery part sounds like it's Veronica Marsish... And whan FOX uses a description of character drama for a series, that usually means a lot of skin and nice haircuts. The cast looks solid, but the show sounds bad.
Flop

The War at Home
''Malcolm in the Middle'' with more grown up cast. But could be funny.
Solid

Windfall
And so shall thi series fall very hard...
Flop

TV show pilots are very hard to prognosticate, especially when we don't know which ones will actually become series. I believe we'll actually know which one's are ordered sometime next week.

I think that Briar & Graves sounds mildly interesting, but not with Elisabeth Rolm. Kitchen Confidential has Nicholas Brendan, which would at least make me watch the first episode. Same with David Boreanez in Bones.

Prison Break has already been ordered for next fall, and it should go well with 24 fans.

Amy Coyne will probably be picked up. Bones might, but I see it having a different title.. Briar and Graves might, but it'll probably be cancelled after a few episodes unless they put it after American Idol, which they won't. I definitely think Kitchen Confidential will, probably put on Wednesday, before or after American Idol.

Prison Break looks the most interesting out of the list. It could be the potential Lost or 24 for Fox

Some of these I believe are coming in June.

I've already started seeing ads for Prison Break. Looks like Fox has a lot of confidence.

On another note, I hope Queen B does well because I want Alicia Silverstone to have a career again. After a starring role in a delightful (but canceled) television series and appearences in two lame comedies, I want her back on track.

Heh. Brittany Murphy stole her career.

Anywho, Briar & Graves, Prison Break, and Reunion all sound pretty cool. I'm a bit burned out on the whole CSI/Law & Order rip off thing, though.

Amy Coyne sounds like it's destined to be another "Monday Night Failure" for FOX.

Bones seems somewhat reminiscent of "Tru Calling". No, they are nothing alike, except Dushku and Boreanaz worked together on Buffy and Angel. But, they'll probably stick it on Thursday nights before or after The O.C. where it will become a cult favorite, and get cancelled after one season.

Briars and Graves = FOX's latest attempt at a Friday night hit.

Deviant Behavior will probably make it past a season. Might be a hit.

Dirtbags might last a season on Wednesdays.

I'm not going to look at anymore for now. Yes, I realize all shows are pilots, and not picked up for next season. But it's fun comparing them to past FOX screw-ups.

Is that more than normal? That just seems like a whole bunch of shows!

Don't Ask, Kitchen Confidential, The Loop, New Car Smell, Reunion and Windfall all look like potentially entertaining shows.

I award them all First Prize!

Peep Show's a cult British TV show (a la The Office) remade for US audiences. If it keeps the original's format and offbeat sense of humour, it might at least be interesting.

Dont Ask looks really good; Kristen Johnston was hillarious and kind of hot on Third Rock from the Sun i missed her.
Fertile Ground looks pretty solid; nice enough cast.

The Peep Show remake will bomb; America isn't ready for that kind of entertainment yet; and as the ratings reflect Britain barely is either; although i find it quite hillarious. The cast of the US version look stupid.

Head Cases looks horrible but look at the cast on Kitchen Confidential. Its got Buffy, Alias and various other hit show's former stars there; i think that one could prove to be some ratings gold.

If Pool Guys becomes a hit ill shoot my foot.

Queen B? Hmm Its a step down fro Alicia, from NBC to Fox; her last show bombed but it has a solid enough cast; ive got a feeling its going to be lame though

All in All an okay lineup - its nice to see some supporting players from older sitcoms appearing in leading roles.
