http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/trailers/4 ... d#/slide/1 This is the new HBO show set in the world of the 1970s music scene - produced by Terrence Winter, Scorsese and Mick Jagger. This is Winter's next show after Boardwalk Empire and given that and the subject matter, I'm excited. |

Epic pilot. A colorful, dense, exhausting, insane, cocaine-fueled, set-piece-on-top-of-set-piece roller-coaster ride. A fever dream of the music industry in the 1970s. It honestly plays more as a Scorsese film than the first episode of a television series. But, of course, it is the first episode of a television series, and I am very excited to see what comes next. |

Fantastic! Cant wait. Is it a more memorable Scorsese pilot than Boardwalk's pilot was? |

No, but close. Of course, Boardwalk Empire is one of my two or three favorite series of all-time. |

So is the show all fictional characters or are they blending real life characters with fictional ones? I heard something about David Johansen being involved in the show. I'm not sure they are having a young Johansen or just a character based on his similarity |

There are 100-percent real people featured as minor characters: Robert Plant, Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant, the New York Dolls, David Bowie (glimpsed in preview of future episode), Andy Warhol (ditto)... Mick Jagger says the Cannavale protagonist is partly/loosely inspired by Walter Yetnikoff of CBS Records. |

I'll watch this soon but the feature length of the pilot bothers me. I'm against any single episode of television being that long - it's unnecessary and comes off as pretentious to me. |

Just watch it in two parts and imagine it is separate episodes. ![]() |

This did really, really bad in same day ratings. Like 700k viewers. |

Yikes. Luckily it was Valentine's Day so hopefully the second weekend sees an uptick (as well as strong time shifted ratings offcourse). |

"The Leftovers" was doing better and that was on shaky ground for renewal for a while and is probably a hell of a lot less more expensive to produce. |

Well HBO probably didn't expect a huge audience for this one from the get go, but that's really low. And the marketing push was huge here in Croatia. If it was the same in the US (and I think it was) then this is a real disappointment for HBO. |

That and HBO making a bad decision to stop production on WestWorld when they have already had few episodes in. They just can't rely on GOT all the time. They could have used Dark Towers and American Gods which they turned down |

But Westworld is still going forward. They're just waiting for the scripts to be finished as far as I have understood. But HBO has been in more cycles where they only relied on one big show before they found one or a few more. |

Not surprising. They probably hope it grows like True Blood. Who knows if it's really good it might become a hit after all. |

Finally watched it yesterday. I mean, it's not the worst pilot I've seen on HBO. But considering the pedigree, it's not great. I'm shocked they did an early renew, especially considering David Simon's 1970s NYC porn industry drama “The Deuce” starring James Franco is moving forward. The two shows will touch many of the same themes. Maybe they'll pair them up on Sunday nights or something. ![]() |

Yeah I think one of those two 70s setting shows is going to removed. Who knew that costuming for just 4 decades back could be quite expensive? The budget for Vinyl is of course not as expensive as Boardwalk Empire but it is still very high. I think this could be a situation like "Luck" where the show was renewed but the writer ended up cancelling it. |
