Re: Mr. Robot (USA)
This season bothers me so far. The craft (cinematography, music, sound editing) is as chic and impeccable as ever, and the acting continues to be very strong...but. Hm. These "supersized" episodes. So many scenes feel drawn-out, as if the series is high on its own critical praise and trying to dial every single moment to an eleven on the Fincher, Kubrick, and Mamet scales. Every gesture and theme is curlicued and manicured and stylized to the point of being encased in amber. As a result, I am finding it hard to re-invest in the plot.
And though I am an atheist, I found Elliot's anti-religion screed in the latest episode annoying. Too much of a tip-of-the-fedora/Reddit vibe. This is a vibe which has always haunted this series' "edgy" distrust of the man, but it felt particularly overbearing here.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA)
To be fair, that 'super-sized' episode bullshit is all USA's fault and not the show's. It is a bullshit marketing move employed by these cable networks to squeeze in more commercials (FX does it all the time and it's infuriating). It was a little longer, sure, but the commercial breaks were so awkward and totally ruined the momentum of every scene.
It's enough to make me want to watch every episode on my DVR the next day.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA)
Last week's episode was amazing and the best of the season so far. The whole opening sequence was super trippy and the whole Angela/Darlene caper scene was the most fun this show has ever been - I thought the last half hour was a total blast.

I honestly don't believe there's been a second season slump.
Last night's episode was incredible and the reveal was great.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA)
I love this season now. As I said earlier in the thread, the first two or so episodes failed to completely reignite my interest, but everything from "eps2.2_init_1.asec" onward is terrific.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA)
I'm catching up now and this season is fucking amazing. I honestly believe that the whole thing about this and "unREAL" having sophomore slumps in the media is total bullshit and clickbait from journalists.
This season has done a brilliant job of establishing the overall world of this series and I am totally invested in so many of the characters now. That episode with Darlene and Angela as the exclusive focus was AMAZING (Carly Chaikin for an Emmy nom please) and showed the series could stand on its own without Rami's performance.
Watching last week's episode now.

Ratings-wise they are.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA)
Yeah, they're down a bit but ratings matter so little these days it's hard to care about that (Lifetime and USA are never going to cancel shows willingly that get them Emmy nominations, no way in hell) - they're in no danger of being pulled.
It's mostly critics and end-of-summer lists heaping all the praise on "Stranger Things" and singling these two out for having weaker seasons. And for the record, it's definitely not fair to at least judge this show already as it is a slow burn and so many pieces of the season early on are just now coming together in recent episodes.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA)
The penultimate episode of the second season is Mr. Robot's most..."difficult" ever. I half wonder if the series is on the verge of revealing a total science-fiction/alternate-dimensions element.

Insane finale with so many cliffhangers. I seriously think Carly Chaikin deserves Emmy love this year. She was incredible this entire season.

I'm catching up now and Season 3, Episode 5 is one of the best episodes of television I've ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat and could barely breathe for the entire thing.

The latest episode was absolutely stunning. Holy fuck. Rami deserves the Emmy.
I'm so scared for everyone, this season has been ruthless. Darlene better make it to the end.
