Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
Halfway through episode 2 and I love it. Ellie Kemper has finally found a proper starring vehicle for her peculiar and likable comedic talents.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
I'm the slowest binge-watcher in the world so I'm only two shows in but I love it. This show would die a slow, painful death on NBC. So glad they sold it to Netflix.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
One more to go. Even though JH has been aces, I feel like the trial episodes have been the weakest of the series. The humor is repetitive, relying too much on small town folks are dumb. The show loses a lot of charm when Kimmy is the smartest person in the room. And TF, while funny, isn't really adding anything that some rando actress couldn't. I imagine she will play multiple roles in the show though.
Still looking forward to the finale, but I hope season 2 learns from this and does, at most, one Indiana episode. #NYC4lyfe.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
The last episode more than made up for it. I think its the strongest first season for a comedy since Arrested Development, and I guess the those last two were the Marta episodes. The world is so lucky this ended up on netflix, there's no way we would get a season two otherwise. And now Fey/Carlock will get to do as many seasons as they'd like. I'm anticipating it will age well, as I think I missed a lot of jokes due to laughter from the previous joke.

The show definitely finds its footing in the middle of the season, on episode 10 and I'm really liking it now.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
Watched episode 4 today. That was the most 30 Rock episode so far (Buhbreeze is totally something Tina wrote), which isn't necessarily a good thing given my love/hate relationship with that show, but it actually works with these characters.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
I thought the stuff in the courtroom fell flat. Overall I rather enjoyed the season but the last couple of episodes weren't on par with the middle section.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
I like that people in the comments are blaming Tina Fey for it.
When I saw the Martin Short character, I actually thought it was Brandt they were mocking but didn't feel he was important enough to be mocked on the show. Kind of crazy if he was the basis for the character.
Still not a good enough reason to blame the show for his death.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
Areo Castro must have gotten an advance screening of the show, solving the mystery of his suicide as well.
I know we shouldn't make jokes involving a man's death, but come the fuck on, how can you put that shit in the title of your article?

I need to catch this. I saw a scene of Jane's character offering a brand new bottle water but when the lady declined it she just tossed it in the trash!

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
I feel bad for this doctor, because he obviously had a lot of issues. Also, I had listened to his radio show twice on a long drive, because it had a weirdly soothing effect in its sheer ridiculousness.
But this quote, man:
Though Dr. Frederic Brandt was skewered on Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s new Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, a source tells People that the parody did not prompt his apparent suicide. “He was depressed,” the source said. “Did the show upset him? Yes. It was a mean characterization. He was a human being, no one would like that. It was making fun of him for the way he looked and it was mean and it was bullying. It was an illness, he suffered from depression… It wasn’t the only thing troubling him, it was just one factor. It definitely hurt him. He was absolutely upset, who would want that? But that was not why he committed suicide. But it didn’t help.”
Basically, that quote said: The portrayal hurt him. But he didn't kill himself over it!! Though it was mean and bullying. Still he was stronger than a TV parody, hurtful as it was. But he took his own life for other reasons... though maybe this was one of the reasons. Except that it wasn't. Maybe.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
I thought the first episode was funny. It wasn't outrageously so but I'm gonna watch a couple more and see where it goes.

Re: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
Yeah, when I started watching Season 1, it was more or less a whim because I love Ellie Kemper and was curious to see her in a leading role. I hope it continues to catch on.
