I'm torn because I'm such a HUGE fan of the X-Files universe and the characters. But these episodes are largely hitting all the wrong notes.

For example the Texas nurse last night, with all the anti-Islam stuff. I know it was supposed to be trendy and topical but it fell flat. I'm sure in the writers room, it all made sense at the time. Terrorists! Faith! Psychedelic Mushrooms! Mulder and Scully 2.0! Dance Sequences!

You sure it made sense?

No, that was just bizarre. And sad. What the hell happened? It made any issues I had with the previous three episodes disappear. They were classic X-Files compared to this. You have six hours to fill, to potentially end the entire franchise, and you waste an hour on that?

This was confirmation to me that Chris Carter never got his own show. He polluted the show with nonsense for years, then when smarter writers took the show in better directions (Vince Gilligan especially), he tried doing the same and either failed or just did his best impersonation of better writing. Last night was absolutely bizarre. The tone was horrific. You don't do that much bullshit with such a heavy topic.

Chris Carter attempted so much in this episode and not a bit of it worked. Nothing here would ever have been on the original. The show basically never used outside music (it was a big deal to composer Mark Snow when they used a Moby song in Season 7), only when it really augmented a scene. But last night was full of music that would never show up on X-Files. Blake Shelton and The Lumineers? Really?

And you waste appearances by the Lone Gunmen and CSM? Why? Their brief appearances didn't work.

On top of that, this was clearly meant to be some backdoor pilot for a spinoff with Einstein and Miller. That's actually my only explanation as to why Chris wrote this. And unless he recasts Robbie Amell (vacant and vanilla as expected), you can forget ever doing X-Files without David and Gillian.

I'm at a loss for words, which is surprising given all I wrote.

I though Amell was good. The female detective was totally off though.

That episode was a boring mess IMO. I thought it would atleast be more interesting with the newer/younger agents dynamic, but I just didn't care about their characters, especially the bitchy female agent. Suicide bombing has never been an appealing concept to me anyways and it felt so out of place in an X-Files episode. I'm actually holding out hope for the last episode, but Chris Carter directing again has me worried.

It's a mythology episode again. I'm afraid this revival won't end good at all.

So Chris that is how you want to end this revival? Really? If there is another season, then I hope FOX bans Carter from being even remotely connected to any segment of the show. I wouldn't give him floors to scrub.

Yeah that finale was just as underwhelming as the pilot. Chris Carter really shouldn't be allowed to direct anymore episodes unless he has some serious help. Like I said before I'd watch another season, but hopefully it's better than this.

Yeah, I'd like more of The X-Files too for some weird reason considering I pretty much disliked this whole "mini series". Mulder and Scully deserve so much better!

I enjoyed the six episodes. I'll take another six next year, please!

This is pending in my list to watch later but I am wondering if I should start this. The pilot and ending seems to be disliked in general.

Throughout it feels like a weird parody of the original series but with all the actors and creative people behind back. It's only 6 episodes though. You won't waste much time if you decide to watch it.

Yeah with just 6 episodes I will watch it eventually I hope. I wanted to binge watch the entire X-files series once because I didn't watch all of the episodes regularly when it first aired. Maybe this will continue along with that.

They lost me after 4. 6 can be too much. Even the ones considered well liked seem slight. this series just doesn't work anymore. And the creative team is definitely not the ones to bring it forward. Carter is feeling more and more like a lone gunmen.

If they do ever come back they need to: Revamp or finally resolve

It was worth it for the excellent "Were-Monster" and the solid-if-minor "Home Again."

Those last two episodes were rather tone deaf and deflating, though.

They're bringing the show back with a 10 episode order this time. Hopefully it's a much needed improvement over these 6 episodes that just blew.

Wow, I had no idea. Really excited and cautiously optimistic. Maybe the so-so reviews for Season 10 will make Chris Carter get his head out of his own ass this time. The best ones were, of course, those written by Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong, but even their contributions weren't that superior to the other episodes. They just had a low bar to reach.

With Frank Spotnitz out at Amazon, I'm sure he'll be involved. And maybe Vince Gilligan or Duchovny himself will contribute.
