Before I spend my money on it.

Is it really on the same top level like Breaking Bad, Sopranos?

Yes it's pantheon TV. Sopranos is better but I think Wire > BB

You could pay $15 for a month of HBOgo over paying $100 or whatever it is for the entire series on blu-ray. It would be worth it either way though.

Its a bit overated like Breaking Bad. Its good but too many people try to make claims that its the greatest show ever. Spend your money on Deadwood or Rome, Filmo.

Yeah Deadwood is also on my list for some time. But has it a normal ending? I saw that it is only three seasons? So Deadwood is not a show that got cancelled?

Unfortunately, Deadwood was cancelled and never really had a proper ending. At leas HBO gave Rome a heads up to wrap things up for season 2. You should try miniseries like Band of Brothers and the Pacific. All those HBO shows have great sets.

I already have BOB and Pacific. Yeah thats great stuff.

Does the Wire gets a normal ending? Its just I hate it when a serie doesnt.

I would say its very borderline. Its definately not full closure like say Rome which was able to wrap everything but it does not really end so much in a cliff hanger like Carnivale.

He would need a cable provider plus I do not know much how it is in Europe but I think he would need Sky Atlantic as a provider of some sort.

Yeah getting HBO here is quite expensive (would also need to change my cable company).

So waiting and then get the series in a budget complete box (even on Blu-Ray) is most time way cheaper.

And with a box you can give it to friends and they give you other series etc.

I think The Wire had a very satisfying ending. It could have easily gone another season after that, but all of the main players had their arcs wrapped up anyways. And the so-called controversial bit fit into the overall theme of the show. The game stays the same.

The ending is fine, as mentioned lack of closure is sold well as the intentional point. Last season has some weaknesses however. 4 > 2 > 1 > 3 > 5. 2 is underrated and 3 is overrated.
