This new Texas/Mexico set crime drama debuts Wednesday, July 10th on FX.

It could be interesting. I dig both leads. I presume it is drawing inspiration from the Ciudad Juarez homicides, similar to 2666 by the late Roberto Bolaño.

It looks interesting. Meredith Stiehm is the showrunner and she's done a lot of great work, recently on Homeland.

It's a remake, right?

A couple very intense sequences. A few tantalizing veins of mystery, notably the new widow and the mysterious key. Potent atmosphere. Demián Bichir is solid and convincing as the Weary, but Honest Mexican Cop.

Damn, though. I am not sure I will ever be able to sympathize with Diane Kruger's bitchy Asperger's detective. I know a flawed, fractured lead detective/doctor/lawyer/etc. is a fixture of televised drama, but she is a serious patience tester. Why is this extremely non-functioning woman even on a police force?

I watched about thirty minutes of it and found it incredibly dull and uninteresting, and I hated Diane Kruger in it. Disappointing. I won't be back unless I hear great things.

Her characterization seems a huge miscalculation to me so far. Robotic and unpleasant.

The character reminded me of a second rate Carrie Mathison but about a thousand times less interesting and sympathetic. It was the main reason I stopped watching the pilot.

When i first heard about this i thought it reeked of being a one-and-done for FX, like Terriers or Lights Out. I liked the pilot a lot but I now KNOW it'll be a one and out for FX. Like those cancelled gems it's the kind of show FX WANTS to make, but not the kind of show FX audiences want to watch (i.e., gonzo execution of high concept stuff, or stuff with testosterone pouting out of its eyeballs--this is why the peerlessly brilliant The Americans bled viewers like a stuck pig).

I look forward to savoring these episodes but its on the wrong network.

Funny how Ted Levine has become a handler for someone with a disorder in two different shows.

Try the original. It really is great. And naming the show The Bridge actually makes sense.

I never bothered after the pilot.

I enjoy Low Winter Sun a lot, though. ;)
