AWESOME NEWS! :D :D :D

This better get picked up. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a brilliant, underrated actress and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" is one of my favorite shows of all-time, so naturally I'm beyond pumped for her return to the small screen. I can't wait!

Something is wrong with the Variety site. It doesn't open. Is there any more info in the article?

Awesome news BTW.

Her movie career is in the dumps, so of course she'd come crawling back to TV in a pathetic attempt to remain relevant.

Wow, a bit harsh, don't you think? There's nothing wrong about turning to TV these days - why do you think so many high-profile actors are signing on to shows now? It's a very different and more respected medium than it once was.

Her last few films haven't done that well (although I enjoyed The Return and Suburban Girl and LOVED Southland Tales), but she's always good or great in them (see The Air I Breathe for a perfect example - mediocre film that is totally elevated by her performance). Anyone who has watched "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" or even seen her performance in Cruel Intentions can easily see that she has a great deal of talent. And she's still relevant. Being the star of one of the most influential and acclaimed television shows ever will ensure that for some time to come ;)

BTW, here's a link to another source that reported the news, since the Variety link is down:

So, it's a comedy? Huh. I expected a drama. But it will be nice to see her in a comedy. She can be quite funny (The Suburban Girl comes in mind, and she did good with Daphne in Scooby Doo - but that wasn't even a mediocre material to begin with).

She does have a few interesting movie titles yet to be released. She's the lead in the adaptation of Coelho book which are always interesting.

Someone sounds bitter... lolz.

Anywho, good news. She's always been great for TV and this role looks like it could take her back to her Cruel Intention's bitchiness that I always thought complimented her acting ability so well.

Don't be bitter just because you won't be seeing any more Sarah Michelle Gellar DTV movies if the show is a hit.

HBO > 70% of most movies released at the cinema.

A step down would be The CW.
