A solid Nintendo Direct today with the highlight being Mario Tennis. After the last few entries I won’t get my hopes up too high, but it looks like this one atleast got rid of the power ups.

Post Re: Nintendo Switch
I'm glad it was called a "mini" direct, since that's exactly what it was -- just enough to give fans a few updates before any major announcements leading up to E3 in the Summer.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix is such a random, outta nowhere port. Don't get me wrong, I highly enjoyed the game on the DS, but it was released 10 years ago... I'll probably pick this one up regardless, and have to admit I'm pretty excited for it as well. I just hope it's not $60...

I'm still not entirely sold on Pokken Tournament even with the newly announced DLC. It definitely needs its roster to be expanded, so the more Pokemon announced the better, but I don't know... Tekken-style fighters are okay, but have very poor replay value to me. Maybe one day when (rather if) it goes on sale at some point I'll get it.

I'll pass on the Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. I already have Hyrule Warriors (Wii U) with all the DLC, so adding some of the 3DS version exclusive characters and content isn't enough for me to double dip there. And it'll definitely be $60 since it's Zelda. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe didn't add much over the Wii U version either, but the much larger online community versus the Wii U version will keep it relevant for years. I'm probably going to pick up Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze later this year, though.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA looks interesting. I might consider buying it if reviews are strong and the gameplay is a respectable length.

And all the small DLC announced is fine. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle was definitely a surprise last year; very fun, and at times, challenging, so getting to add Donkey Kong to the party is nice. The Balloon mini-game for Super Mario Odyssey seems alright, but I'll probably suck at it since I'm sure most people will hide the balloons in nigh impossible to reach locations (I'm not very good at the crazy hat tricks everyone's perfecting).

I have little interest in Dark Souls: Remastered, but it's certainly a title that should expand Nintendo's base and is a win for them.

Also, the sales for the Switch are incredible -- the fastest selling console ever in a 10 month period. I'm sure they'll be an abundance of more ports from the Playstation/Xbox making their way to the console in the next year or two.

Great direct. That Smash trailer has everyone hyped. No one can sell a port better than Nintendo. :funny:

Also happy about the Captain Toad remake. Always wanted to try that out, but couldn’t do it on Wii U. I wish we were getting Luigi’s Mansion. Who wants to find their 3DS? Hopefully it will be ported over along with Samus Returns.

Actually there are a lot signs pointing towards this being the official Smash 5. Would love that to be true!

Yeah, they're keeping whether or not Smash is a port up in the air right now. My guess is that it'll mostly be a port, but have an additional game mode (story), new characters/maps, new features, etc. Similar to how Splatoon 2, while not a port of Splatoon, is very similar and didn't change too much.

I'd be highly impressive if it's an entirely new game, given how long it typically takes them (Sakurai) to develop the Smash games. If this is true, I'd bet on it being pushed to early/mid-2019.

They don't really need to change the mechanics of Smash 4, it is such a great game. However, while I'm sure Smash 4 Deluxe would sell like ten million copies, Smash 5 sells ten million Switches. We need at least ten new characters and a new single player mode.

For new characters we have tons of options:

Squidling
Marina
Ice Climbers
Decidueye
Revali
Geno
Cranky Kong
Shovel Knight
Something Bethesda related
Madeline from Celeste
Captain Toad
Something from Arms
Super Meat Boy

Could go on forever actually lol, so I'll just stop there.

Yeah, there are plenty of new characters to include.

I don't know why I didn't think of the Champions from Breath of the Wild until you mentioned Revali... I want all four of them now and will probably be disappointed if they're excluded.

And watch Rabbid Peach make it in.

Looks like we are gonna get two versions of a Yellow remake, called Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, before getting to a new Pokemon game. It’s a little disappointing, but I guess they can use this as practice for seeing what will and won’t work on the Switch. And from a business perspective it makes sense to capitalize on Pokemon Go, going all the way back to the most familiar setting and critters.

I'm fine with this since Generation 7 isn't even 2 years old yet (and Ultra Sun and Moon are only 7 months old). I'm perfectly okay with waiting another year for a Generation 8.

And I'm doubting these rumors, if true, are true remakes of Yellow. I actually think I read that Red and Blue are characters in the story this time, and that we'll be playing as new characters. I'm guessing they'll be more of a re-imagining versus more traditional remake.

Is anyone getting Let’s Go? I will eventually, the reviews are encouraging. People seem to agree, even with the changes it plays like a normal Pokemon game. Doesn’t look like there will any difficulty, but the last few haven’t been very difficult anyways. I accidently one-shot killed Deoxys in Omega Ruby. That shouldn’t happen! :P

I'm casually playing Let's Go. Just beat Lt. Surge (third gym) and about to enter Rock Tunnel.

It's sufficiently fun, and does offer a fresh take on playing through Kanto once again. I played through Red/Blue/Yellow several times each, FireRed/LeafGreen at least two times each, and even downloaded Yellow onto my 3DS a couple years ago, so I've played through Gen 1 many, many times, and Let's Go isn't proving tried for me yet.

It's probably due to changing out my party pretty often, but I'm actually finding the game a bit more challenging than Sun and Moon. If you catch a lot of Pokemon, I can definitely see how one's team can become over-leveled in a hurry, thus making the game a breeze, but I'm not going for all the combo catch bonuses in my initial play-through. I also chose Pikachu instead of Eevee, and everyone is saying Eevee is overpowered due to the new exclusive moves he can learn, so that could also be a factor.

Sword and Shield!

I liked the gen 7 starters a lot more. Grookey is pretty cool though and will likely be my pick. Scorbunny looks like the mascot but is too similar to Buneary for me.

I loved Cuphead (fuck the airplane levels though) so that is a welcome surprise.

Hot take: New Super Mario Bros U DX is the third best 2D Mario game. The base game is great on its own, then Super Luigi U is even better, and naturally just being on Switch makes it superior to the Wii U version, which I didn’t play.

I’m in for BOTW2.

Cannot give a strong enough recommendation to Slay The Spire. It’s a roguelike deck-builder, only $25 and highly addictive.

While it's disappointing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was pushed back to March 2020, I'm fine with it. The Fall/Winter will still have Pokemon Sword & Shield and Luigi's Mansion 3 as their key titles, and they'll get ample play here. Luigi's Mansion 3 looks great, and after watching the Nintendo Treehouse demonstrations, it definitely looks innovative and I like the direction they've taken with it to allow more varied gameplay.

And even before they're released, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening are day 1 purchases for me. Three Houses looks to be the most in-depth entry in the series yet; and Link's Awakening is one of the few Zelda games I never played so I'm looking forward to it -- the art direction looks great, and the dungeon builder addition will keep replay value high I'm sure.

Also, I just bought Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition for $35 (30% off) since it was apart of Nintendo's Digital Sale for E3. I've always wanted to play this one since it's considered one of the very best in the Tales series, which I love, but I decided against a 360 back in the day to play it.

The Nintendo Digital Sale is ending tomorrow, so I might also purchase Crypt of the NecroDancer while it's on sale. The Legend of Zelda version, Cadence of Hyrule, also interests me.

Kinda regretting my SMM2 purchase. I never got the first one, but always saw it as an unlimited source of platforming levels. So far though, I haven't got any great ones online and the ones included in the story mode are nowhere near as exciting as what they had in NSM+LBU. I might actually have to make some levels to get proper value out of it lol.

Anyone else looking at Marvel Ultimate Alliance?

I'm waiting on Super Mario Maker 2 until I get gifted a gift card from someone, or if I decide to use some of my GameStop points on a certificate ($25/50).

While I enjoyed the first one, I did grow a bit tired of it after a month or so. The fun, creative, and appropriately challenging courses became few and far between. The majority were either of the non-sense variety (don't move, don't touch) or designed to fail (the "famous" 0.001% completion types). It was fun to create courses, but I wasn't finding a good balance between creating and playing.

It was even one of the very few (honestly, probably five or less) first-party Nintendo games I decided to sell before its value dropped...

I may pick up Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but not at launch or soon after. I have a decent backlog right now, and I'm also still playing a decent number of older releases (Tales of Vesperia, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Civilization VI, Mario + Rabbids) on a daily/weekly basis .

Nevermind. I'm getting Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 tomorrow. I don't always let reviews sway me, but they're good and the only consistent complaints I'm reading are: 1.) Non-used characters not receiving XP unless they're in the battle, so they become under-leveled and neglected later in the game. 2.) Camera issues at times.

1.) This is honestly a positive for me. I don't enjoy when everyone/everything receives XP in games despite not being used. I just prefer using everyone/everything and leveling them through actual gameplay instead, and will happily replay/grind previous chapters with new or under-leveled characters.

2.) Well, whatever. Unless the camera is a constant annoyance and really hinders a game, I don't care about hiccups along the way.

Great to hear!!I bought it, well I already had it fully preordered so that was an easy decision, but my biggest concern with reviews is that its not great in handheld mode, where the similar (but older) Diablo 3 absolutely shines. Still should be fun docked though. Let’s do a team up after we get a few characters leveled up properly.

Let's try aiming for Tuesday/Wednesday, if one of those days work for you. We can form a three-person team with my husband. We'll probably be under-leveled though, already feeling that way on Chapter 3(!), since we just like to try out a wide variety of characters rather than focus on a core group.

So far, I think Thor is my favorite (husband's is Rocket & Groot), but it's still very early. I want to like Spider-Man (both Peter and Miles), but I'm not a fan their initial special. I really hope I like the other three specials once they're unlocked.

Have we added one another in the past?

I'm into it.

And yeah I've been playing with everyone too, but wound up only just-narrowly beating Mysterio with a bunch of level 6s. So I did the Infinity trial a few times to level everyone up to at least seven.

The camera complaints are no joke. And the graphics and gameplay are pretty basic. But it's really fun and funny. It's definitely hitting the spot for an entertaining summer game. I might even hold off on Fire Emblem until I beat the campaign. Maybe....Actually probably not.

Agreed about the camera. I didn't expect it to be as annoying as it can often be.

Mysterio was one of the most difficult battles so far. And Bullseye was definitely the most annoying, and it was due to the camera for that battle...

But, as you said, it's really fun.
