Public schools, controlling for race and income, are not inferior to private schools, either, and there's evidence suggesting they're even superior. The public education system's effectiveness in this country, like so many other things, is tied to class (and thus, to race too). Private schools look good by being exclusive by class (rich people can get special treatment for their kids if they're not that bright or have a learning disorder or act out, and afford tutors on the side too, who'd have thunk it?) and race, thus they don't have to deal with kids that are at risk of joining a gang, or have PTSD, or have behavioral issues. If, say, every inner-city kid got vouchered out, it'd overwhelm the private schools across the country and the wealthy whites would pull their own kids, money and resources out...putting everything right back to square one. And yes, the most highly lauded education systems in the world have heavily unionized teachers. |

Not saying, though that would work for the U.S. Double-check your OECD scores. They're essentially on the same level, we even beat them in some regards. |
