To be fair, most people don't see the distinction (and rightfully so) between federal income taxes, FICA and state and local taxes. The reason for this is that all those taxes are taken out from the paycheck and tax returns are prepared by accountants. So most people, at least in their mind, do pay a lot in taxes. That doesn't change the fact that the rich (or, to be more precise, high earners) pay a lot more in taxes than others.
