Lol I think he is a Czar rather then a PResident.

My problem with legalizing pot is that if it become more legal, many people who would touch the stuff as they are afraid of the law would.

Meaning sure there is no health effects but if something is legal people will engage in it. The last thing I want to see is smoking pot become like drinking alcohol.

However I would be in favour of legalizing it if it was heavily regulated.

I would rather everyone be stoned than drunk. Alcohol is far more hazardous to you physically, emotionally, and has longer lasting effects according to actual scientific studies. Unfortunately, people don't understand how marijuana actually works and simply use stereotypes and confirmation bias in their evaluations of it.

I am a regular smoker, but I have a 4.0 in college, and am currently seeking out multiple jobs and healthily pursuing a career in law. I don't see this as impairing my motivation, unless you know...I'm high. The next day I am fine, unlike alcohol. In fact, when I have been drinking I am less likely to be productive. So yeah, from personal experience the vast majority of negative comments aimed at marijuana are complete bullshit unless you think we need to be completely sober as a society.

Some people then point out to that stoner kid who gets no shit done. Yeah, that's great, you've found a lazy person who would be lazy with or without marijuana. Marijuana did not make that person lazy, they're just lazy in of themselves. Sure smoking does not help them, but if it was not smoking that made them lazy it would be video games or television or the internet or what have you.

BUT, just to cover the bases, even if marijuana were legal, this does not mean use would rise, at least according to countries that have legalized it or decriminalized it. In Holland, when laws lightened up on cannabis, use went down. But again, even if it did rise, I have heard no argument grounded in reality to say this would be bad for society.

As I said I am for it but it does have some effects. You cannot drive while high of course, and this is a big problem.

I just do not understand why in Western Society we always go from totally banning something to complete freedom or "open season".

Same with many issues including abortion. These kinds of things have an effect on society and should be more controlled and regulated. For example a Women has the right to choose, but many in society think Aborting a baby in the late stages is pretty much taking a life. I do not understand why we cannot create a law protecting the choice and then putting some restrictions.
The govt restricts us from so many other things, why not on issues like this.

So I am for it, but I do not want it go from there being banned to "open season".

While we are at it, I am for gay marriage (Well really any young person is these days) but against legalizing Prostitution. The main issue is legalizing clearly entourages the behaviour. For example 1 in 300 women in London is a Prostitute while 1 in 35 in Amsterdam. Sure the figures are skewed as Amsterdam is a hub for such activity, but I think legalizing it encourages Women to become prostitutes.

Oh marijuana should be regulated. One of the problems it faces right now on the black market is that if you don't have a trusted dealer, you might get an opiate or some narcotic mixed in with your purchase. There is no FDA to oversee the production of marijuana, just an FDA to place it as a schedule one drug (which is a degree higher than cocaine).
