When I studied political debate and won all those awards in high school and college, I always knew that if all else failed, I could say "Fu you pathetic worthless troll" and then sit down confidentially, knowing that I had won the argument and impressed everyone in attendance.

If you take the average American from 1776-2008, do you think Glenn Beck spends more than them combined?

Between Grill's inane comments, Chippo's spam and Mike's cherry-picking facts it's hard to have a coherent argument on the issue.

I will say this: the stimulus has largely proven to be a failure. Yes, the economy is recovering, but it's in spite of the stimulus, not because of it - and it's recovering nowhere near the levels Obama's supersmart economic advisors said it would.

On the other hand, the Tea Party representatives has yet to prove itself as a serious force in budget debates. Unless large cuts in defense spending and largest subsidies are on the table, all this bickering over abortion funding and NPR is smokes and mirrors. Paul Ryan's budget is a start - but even he does not propose running a surplus any time soon. I don't like to predict doomsday scenarios, but unless EVERYONE is serious about cutting spending (including entitlement programs) we're in deep shit.

Also, Paul Krugman is a dishonest man.

Post Re: Financial Stability Plan
Finally some sense. I agree our economy is on the road to recovery, I don't agree it is because of Obama, but I also don't find the stimulus plan to be a hindrance to the economy. However, unless we increase taxes and decrease social programs for the time being, we will never be able to fix the long term damage the stimulus package will cause. Obama's decision a few months ago (to protect unemployment benefits in order to extend tax cuts for the super rich), in my opinion, will be the worst choice he will make his entire presidency, and I feel it has a good chance of extending for four more years. Hopefully we'll see at least some social progress in his last four years, but I doubt it. The only thing I feel Obama can do do right in his second term is to legalize marijuana, which when he came into office seemed possible, if the people were willing. Well, people are willing, and yet he's has literally laughed it off the table.

I'll probably vote for Obama, simply because I do not want Republicans, certainly not with their current mindset, in the white house. I don't have a problem with them cutting social programs, I do have a problem with the needless cutting of funds to education, research, and to the arts, the former two far more than the latter. Are lack of funding towards research in the 1940s hurt us badly in the long run. We invested into soldiers post-war, a seemingly smart thing to do at the time, warped America into something bad.

So Chicken shit Groucho, looks like Krem and Darth backed up my point > debt and spending is a major problem.

And Dippy, I compared Presidents to Presidents, and you compare average Americans to Glenn Beck.

Not that I am surprised, as I know you are a retard.

It's not about the budget, really. Ryan's a hack with his own ax to grind. Nobody's willing to do a drastic tax raise on the right people either. Or cut the defense budget by at least half while leaving Afghanistan.

No need to raise taxes if the spending is in check. And spending includes the myriad of deductions that reduce total tax collections.

The spending wasn't in check when it should have been in the last ten years and it won't be. It's a thoroughly starved beast that has been taken over by a sick, diseased system. And the people most responsible will and are usually getting away with it, if not profiting off of it.

Plus, it's not just taxes being raised, they're about to be cut (hugely for the wealthy, because I'm sure they'll use it to create jobs). Again. Great, that'll solve the deficit too. I almost wonder if it's deliberate sabotage by many, if not most.

I like Taibbi's description of him. Purple nurples in high school? Ha.
