The majority of the people, via the Civil War and the 13th Amendment, outlawed slavery. There was nothing "overturned" if by that you mean a court decision. I like where the will of the people, the 14th Amendment, was overturned by a court in a case called Plessy v. Ferguson which enshrined "separate but equal" in the United States for nearly 60 years.

Was this cloying and self-congratulatory statement really necessary? Nobody here seems to think that gays should not be allowed to marry, the question is if it is Constitutionally permissible to not allow them to do so or whether a state, if it allows marriage, must provide it to homo and hetero couples on an equal basis. Is there a non-religious reason to oppose it, really?

Cloying and self contratulatory? What has happened to people. Cut the cynicism for once.

I love it how when confronted with their own arguments liberals get sarcastic. How about answering the question? Sure, I'll answer with another question. What the fuck does taxation have to do with this?

Re: Proposition 8 Overturned!
Would you not torture one person in order to save ten of your family members?

Re: Proposition 8 Overturned!
^ Completely irrelevant. One is a personal situation where personal emotions intervene, whereas the other is an official army policy related to war...and none of the American soldiers have any family in danger, it's the Iraquis. They should be the one torturing the soldiers to know if they're going to bomb their village and label their dead children as "side effects" so the soldiers will later be given medals for "protecting America's freedom".

If it were irrelevant, I would not have asked.
