If you ever want a list of old messaging apps, just edit your KJ profile:

Quote:
ICQ number:
AOL Instant Messenger:
WL/MSN Messenger:
Yahoo Messenger:
Jabber address:

Does anybody still use these?

I used to use MSN Messenger, but that got converted into a Skype account. The rest I never used. Now I just use Skype at work, Facebook for UK family/friends, and WeChat for Chinese family/friends.

I don't know what ICQ is. I haven't used AIM since 2001? Ditto MSN. I don't think I ever used Yahoo messenger. And I don't know what Jabber is.

How do you not know what ICQ is? 15 years or so ago it was the most popular char client in the world I think.

I mean, maybe I used to know what it meant? But I don't think I ever used it often. I think I may remember using it to chat with people here? I'm not sure.

The funny thing is that all of those are still going in some way, shape, or form. Nothing dies in the digital world.

I've never heard of ICQ either.

I used AIM up until like 2007 and MSN until like 2004.

Obviously FB Messenger and unlimited texting were the death knell.

I always liked the name "i seek you". It's as creepy sounding as it is friendly sounding.

I only really used MSN of those, heavily in high school, and I think I stopped around mid 2004 when I when to college. I don't remember using any direct chatting tool during my college years and just staying in touch with people by texting and email.

I do remember making an ICQ account way back, but it never caught on with anyone around me it seems.

When I moved to China in 2008 I started using QQ, then Whatsapp came along to stay in touch with people back home and now WeChat reigns as my daily com. tool

For what it's worth, AOL Instant Messenger will be discontinued on 15th December 2017.
