David has been banned for insulting personal attributes of another member. Mocking the personal attributes of a member, however veiled and witty, is not allowed. I really don't like having to ban members for such mundane behavior. However since this has bothered Mau, and since David has been warned about this behavior before, he has been banned for a week. |

I presume Algren is perceived as having violated the fourth rule (or commandment) of the forum as outlined in the other thread. It is interesting, though: did he ever call an African American member of the forum the word in question directly? David, I want members to feel that they are free to express themselves here, and the rules reflect that. With regards to Algren, it wasn't a specific post, rather the straw that broke the camel's back. The freedom that I want users to have is a freedom that allows them to discuss their beliefs. If Algren wishes to have an articulate discussion about racism, homosexuality, and his feelings on each, he's welcome to do so. The issue with his post, and with Mau's, is that they're filled with hateful words, and hateful intent. For some members browsing the forums, reading those hateful words can lead to them feeling personally attacked, even when the words are not directed at them, and that type of behavior is against our policies. Lecter and I are only so active, if you see these types of posts consistently from a member, please drop one of us a line to make sure we're aware. As for Mau, I'll be sending him a PM shortly with a warning for his comments. He really should be banned, a lesser track record is a poor excuse, but it's what I'm going with for now. Karl |
