Can we make it a requirement to included the date (including the year) for the Screen/Crowd Report threads and the weekend number threads (including friday numbers)?

It wouldnt take much effort, and would save much time for anyone going back to check pre-sales for certain films that were posted and such.

For now, just pm mods and admins, and we'll edit the date in. Or do it ourselves.

Can the sports forum be deleted? It just seems so stupid.

To make the box office forum more easy to follow, I think there should be a subfolder for international box office. There can still be that one weekend update topic about the international box office, but with multiple box office threads for different countries, it would be easier to follow with them grouped into their own sub forum.

In mood to make a thread in BOB to see what others might think of this idea?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

What do people think about making it so that only those registered for the forum can view the forum?

Particularly as we get closer-knit and talk about more personal items, it'd be nice to know that only those participating in the forum can view what's being said.

Has this not been done because (and I don't know if this is true or not but I'm just guessing) that it would hurt Google AdWords, for example?

Just a thought!

Thanks,

Tim

You're dead on Tim. The reason it's left open is simply because A) due to the topical nature of the forums, we have many lurkers, people who read the forum but don't register. B) those lurkers provide hits and ad impressions, and as the site loses money on a monthly basis, we're not in a position to decrease our revenue stream purposfully.

How about a subforum for Videos such as youtube since these are not necessarily Music or available on DVD and could be useful for providing "a quickie plug"?

Can we have links open in a new browser window instead of leaving the site?

Yeah, I do this, but it's still something of a nuisance when you can just click on a link with the same result on most other sites.

Middle button click works too.

Hmm, can we also increase the signature character count by about 100? The limit right now is decent, but this very post at this point is about 1/3 of what's allowed. I doubt members would abuse an extra 100 characters by loading their signatures with pictures or something. But lists, quotes and such really eat away at that 400 limit right now.

The above short paragraph is likely near 2/3 of what's allowed.

um, Blu-ray and DVD are 2 different rival formats. Blu-ray is not associated with DVD. Blu-ray discs have nothing to do with DVDs other than the fact that they are the same size. if blu-ray was dvd, then why would they have had HD-DVD? Blu-ray Disc is a completely separate format that defeated the DVD's High Definition counterpart. So i guess Betamax and VHS are the same thing too since they are both tapes?

Blu Ray is a high quality DVD.

HD is high quality TV.

Sorry. It's not my fault.

What the... "middle button"? How much have you had to drink? ;)

Here are some suggestions, which I think are pretty cool, although I appreciate that this post is prohibitively long :)

One. Rename The Water Cooler "The Bunny Boiler" to formalise its status as a psychotic free-for-all and make the remainder of the forums enforceably "newbie friendly". No protracted flame wars allowed - period. Critically, this will include a new off-topic forum for people to have civilised chit-chat. That way, people can still vent, but it's contained to the single subforum where most of the venting happens, and people who just want to chat about... oh, Bejeweled Blitz or whatever have a friendly place to go.

Two. Keep the front page fresh to encourage new visitors. It doesn't have to take a lot of time. On the front page, show what people are saying on the forums with hyperlinked quotes (time overhead: picking amusing or controversial quotes that will make people want to see the full threads... that wouldn't take a huge amount of time). Have occasional "featured" reviews for big films but try to sort out a steady stream of bite-sized items, literally a couple of hundred words, that maybe come from within the forum.

In fact, here's an idea - make part of the front page a mini "Rotten Tomatoes"-style overview of what happens in the Everyone's a Critic section. You could even nominate "star reviewers" from within the WoKJ community and quote them :) I think that gimmick would get more people airing their views over there.

Try to find a way of making the front page write itself, is what I'm saying.
