everytime I get an avatar it says it is too big, and those that are small enough are too small

Is it a file from your computer? If it is, use http://www.imageshack.us to get a link for it, then paste the link into the "Link to off-site Avatar" section of your profile. If it's just a regular ol' picture, get the link from the picture's properties, and paste into the "Link to off-site Avatar".
