Oh my god. So it's essentially an eighth Harry Potter book.

LOL, this is gonna be such a cheat. First it ist just a play. Now also a book. And Rowling denies that it will ever be a film, but let's face it - it will be a film.

Of course it will be a film eventually. Everyone has a price.

I smell 2 two-part installments.

Harry Potter magic is back as five-star play sells out until May 2017

JK Rowling is going to be selling out a lot longer than that.

I'm joking... but as far as franchises w/ reliable built-in fanbases go, I'd say HP is only second to Star Wars.

We'll see with Fantastic Beasts. But you're probably right. Or Jurassic Park.

The play itself is five hours and already split into two parts. I'm sure it will be a two part film, and my guess is the original film cast will return. I'd be surprised if we didn't see Part 1 within five years.

Is anyone else reading this? I'm pretty excited for tomorrow night.

Yes, I know it's a play not a novel and some of you may have read spoilers. Yes, I have heard there is a fanfictiony type twist at the end. Please don't spoil anything.

I'd rather read newspaper articles claiming I was a pedophile than read a Harry Potter book.

After reading this, I don't see how they will make a movie. The play is receiving a far too mixed response. Would fans even go watch it? I certainly would only be mildly interested.

I read some spoilers on this and some of them sounded ridiculous.

Anyway, I did like it, but it is very far below the quality we have come to expect from Harry Potter stories. The book simply
Spoiler: show
retreads various past plot points through a silly "let's change the past" time travel story common in all sorts of other stories. The characters aren't as butchered as some say, but they certainly felt off at times. Hermione would never want to be Minister of Magic. Snape would never be so nice. Ron wouldn't be so dumb. And Voldemort isn't even human, let alone would he ever have sex and have a fucking child. That part was so dumb. I can't say that it is not an entertaining read, some of the alternate timelines are amusing, and Albus and Scorpius have a nice friendship. About the heteronormativity claims, Scorpius is clearly not gay. Albus seems to be bisexual to me; he obviously has very storng feelings for both Scorpius and Delphi (ugh). All in all, I can't wait to see it staged because I think it could have been better if the characters and plotlines were more fleshed out as they would have been in a novel. Perhaps staging and acting can give us what the script lacks.

Not as bad as you may have heard, but it certainly lacks many things you would want it to have.

B

I just finished act 3... um yeah, I'm not sure if I'm liking it. I think as a book written by Rowling it could've been interesting but as dialogue a lot of it falls flat.
