Don't see any point in reading the book after seeing the film. It will remove any imagination from the reader. You will just be seeing Emily Blunt when you read Rachel.

It pretty much does exactly that...

I never know what book to read, but in the case of a good film I feel like wanting more and if the film is based on a book, the book is what offers that.

I read The Beach and 12 Years a Slave after seeing the film as well.

So SeinLanguage is basically just a book full of Jerry's stand-up material. Still a great read but most of the jokes I have already heard (and I've only seen Seinfeld up to the end of Season 3!).

It was published in 93, around the same time of Seinfeld season 4.

Yeah, so it makes sense with that timeline.

So I finished SeinLanguage. It took me just three days worth of commutes. Good book. Funny. Quick read, though. I would recommend it. I'd like an update of his jokes since 1993, though.

I'm concurrently reading The Hunger Games and The Magician's Nephew.

I'm currently reading City of Mirrors, the finale to the Passage trilogy from Justin Cronin. The first two are among the best books I've ever read so my expectations are high.

Really? My boyfriend likes the first two ones and can't wait to read the last one. I've read the first one and I thought it was pretty bad. The way the story is told doesn't work in its favor. A little reshuffling of chapters would do wonders for story flow IMHO and wouldn't make it as predictable as it was. Also I was annoyed by the whole Christan/Bible related things and there are way too many deus-ex-machina plot resolutions. One per book please.

I just started the sixth book in The Dark Tower series. Finished the fifth one yesterday. This is really one great series. I'm sad I haven't gotten into it before.

If you didn't like the first one do yourself a favor and still read the second book, it may change your opinion of the series. I'm can't say much about the third book as I'm only around 100 pages in and that was mostly set-up.

You think the second one is that much better?

I think it's nicer watching the movie before reading the book. A movie is like the cliffs-notes version and the book expands on this. If I read the book before seeing the movie I'm always initially disappointed with the movie. This does not happen though if I do it the other way around. I enjoy the movie on its own and then get even more of an understanding when I read the book. It's better this way as long as you're still interested in reading the book after seeing the movie. I don't always do this though. Read "Girl on the Train." Book was awesome. Then the movie disappointed me. Probably would have been much more enjoyable had I not read the book.

I'm a little nervous about "Call Me By Your Name" as it's my favorite book and I'm reading it for a third time :whaa:. In my opinion it's a beautiful piece of literature. I just want to crawl inside this book and live there.

Over halfway done The Girl on the Train. Very good so far.

Did you finish it?

I just started reading it today.

I finished The Girl on the Train last week. I somewhat liked it, but didn't really find it good at all. Liked that it took be back to scenes from the film, but unlike what I hoped it didn't add any extra layer to the film either. The film was a much better experience too I thought and maybe it's because the twist has been completely clear the first 200 pages of the book felt quite dragging. Definitely prefer the film in this case anyway, it's a pretty good adaption, the film definitely makes Blunt's character a lot more likable than in the book.

Never heard anyone prefer the second medium [they experienced] more than the first. So this fits in line.

I preferred the book of The Beach which I read after more than the film. But I think that might be the only instance, in other cases I usually read the book first though. Also Miami Vice, I watched the film first and prefer it over the tv-show.

I saw the first three Harry Potter movies before reading the books, and I like the books better. It's not necessarily true that you always like the first medium better.

It is usually more true when people read the book first.

Post Re: What Book Are You Reading Right Now?
A rundown of what I've gone through the past few months.

SPROUT - This was a chore. Dealt with a high school kid working with a teacher for a essay competition who also happens to be dating his dad. Side stories of the kid and his orientation and relationships with a couple folks who attend school and their families. I had to pause a couple times during this because the story just didn't capture me and the main character uses similes and metaphors about every fifth sentence. It was over the top.

THE DANGEROUS ART OF BLENDING IN - This dealt with another high schooler struggling with his identity and his relationship with his best friend as well as that of his Greek Orthodox christian family and his very devout mother. The mother is also a very difficult unlikeable character in his life. I really enjoyed this book though. I almost want to go over it again but the mother is just so over the top.

THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END - This book was interesting. The world setup was one in which there is a service or system that is able to notify you of the date you will die. The story focuses on a couple teens who's lives intersect after both receiving their death call and handling it their own way. Oh, I remember there is also another service where folks who have that notification can use an app to meetup or hang with another person if they have no one to hang with so that's how they meet. The story goes along with them learning about who they are and developing a friendship in such a short time with a couple side plots. I enjoyed this one.

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME: A NOVEL - I just had to get this book before the film because I really wanted to learn about it before it came out and the film took forever to get in my area so this book helped. I think I went over this book twice or three times. The film seemed to closely follow the book for the most part. The end was a variation but I enjoyed the book very much.

READY PLAYER ONE - I LOVED this book. I loved all the references and the detail. The world building and the characters. I found the book very exciting and the relationship between Parzival, Artemis and Aeche. I loved the action sequences and enjoyed visualizing that in my head and this was before watching the film. The first trailer I could see differences and I stopped after the 2nd movie trailer as they were changing all sorts of things. I think both incarnations the movie and the book are great. Love them both.

SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA - I LOVE this book as well. The character of Simon is so relatable and his friends are great in the book. The story is fantastic and of course the eventual reveal of Blue is a joy. It's one I went back to multiple times and it's a very good companion to the film which I also loved even with the changes except for a specific character inserted in the film but I love both.

Do you read multiple books at the same time or one after the other?
