I was browsing over the montreal film listings for this weekend and I chanced across something I haven't seen before. Is this common? Does this happen these days?

Colisée Kirkland (Famous Players)
3200 rue Jean Yves, Kirkland
Every day: 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, 3:15, 3:45, 4:15, 6:45, 7:15, 7:45, 9:55, 10:20, 10:45
Wednesday with babies: 1:00

And if so, I still don't exactly understand what it means.

Around here, some theaters promote usually early morning shows for mothers to bring their babies.

Which I guess allows the mothers to go to the movies and all of the crying a babies to be at the same show.

Its not uncommon. Here in England it happens alot....its so that they can have a screening where real cinema-goers dont get interrupted. Also they have OAP screenings where they have a cup of tea and a biscuit etc....which leads me to think that they may have something for the babies as well..

Aroudn here its called "Baby PIctures", it a family friendly showing of apicture, where parents of young chidlren are encouraged to come and see a movie. WHeras in a normal showing the second their kid makes a niose, everyone is unhappy. Its a great way for parents with small children to see films without bothering everyone. A friend of mine with a child goes, they ahve one every weekend, the one downside is you don;t get much selection of a movie, they jsut pick one movie a week. Its much easier to go to a baby picture with a child as the audience is more forgiving of noise, and all of that baby stuff.

I think its a great idea, no more seeing 4, 5, and 7 year olds s at Hannibal at mignight on a Tuesday in February.

They do this at a couple of the arthouse theaters in Dallas, and the larger chains are just now starting to catch on.

The Dallas Angelika calls them "cry baby matinees," where they dim the lights, provide little changing stations, keep the volume low, and allow moms to stand up in the aisles, etc.

That seems strange. Why would they lower the volume when there's more noise?

Not here either, those babies normally aren't in the movies anyways. Though there was one in AMITYVILLE, he didn't make a sound.

That's actually one of the theater's I visit often and have been there when they are going on. They usually put out changing tables and stuff out in the halls. And they seem to get a pretty good crowd, at least whenever I'm there.
