Sad puppies strike again.

Last Jedi has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but there is a concentrated right-wing effort to discredit it so the audience score is rotten (57%). There's really no other way to explain just a discrepancy, and from my Facebook friends (who are NOT Trump babies) I see it's a great film. (Been too sick to leave the house the last few days so haven't seen it yet).

I don't know if this is a "right wing" effort but I watched a video this morning of a guy who literally cried tears at the trailers of TFA because SW meant so much to him in some personal way and he was quite annoyed at a certain issue with Rey and Luke though he did like the film up till that last act. As a trumpbot myself, I really don't see any SJW issues in this film. So there is a bit more focus on a variety of female characters. So what. I like that while still maintaining a balance with a variety of lead male characters and Kylo is all front and center to me in this chapter. The only qualm I had was with a certain issue with Leia.

Eh, it's just the opposite side of the same coin. Where minorities cry out on social media when awards go to white people or Asian characters get cast by white actors, whites cry out when films pander to the SJW crowd. It's all very exhausting. People will give a film the grade they feel is right, and it really doesn't matter what their reasons are.

Does anyone care about RT's Audience score anyway? I can't say I've ever looked at it.

The film’s casting is very diverse, but that has nothing to do with the storyline whatsoever. And all the actors are good in their roles.

Given the biases of 'professional' critics and Rotten Tomatoes dubious algorithm, the critics rating on any film should be examined with at least as much skepticism.

I look forward to reading Groucho's actual review of The Last Jedi.

Yeah, I think this could be called "jumping to conclusions" or "confirmation bias" , considering I've seen a lot of poor reviews of the film.

They did the same thing to my writer friend Chuck Wendig who wrote a Star Wars novel and had a gay couple in it -- ruined his Amazon score with bad reviews, most of which were clearly cut and pasted, decrying the book's "social justice warrior" attitude. (Mind you, the "gay couple" reference was ONE LINE where someone referenced their husband.)

Are there legitimate criticisms to be made of the film? Of course -- can't think of a film that doesn't have someone who doesn't like it for reasonable reasons. But these fragile male egos don't care about that stuff. If it doesn't promote their backwards world view, then they have to destroy it.

I posted that when there were only these three and the prequels, before Disney took over!

I rarely post reviews, as you guys know, although I did complain about Force Awakens being too much of New Hope revisited but what a great improvement over the prequels. I enjoyed Rogue One quite a bit. My wife was sick for about a week and then I caught it, so we're way behind at going to the movies -- still haven't seen Thor or Coco yet either...

Some bad reviews clearly are. That always happens. They're like Comic Book Guy who says "Worst Film Ever. I'm only going to watch it four more times."

But there is a concentrated effort by the Sad Puppies and other alt-right groups to destroy media that doesn't fit their nazi-like view of the world. They did it with fiction by attacking the Hugo Awards, they did it at Dragoncon, they now they've done it to Star Wars. It's pretty obvious, actually, because it fits the pattern. Yes, they're nerds but they're the nazi nerds.

The alt-right Trumper behind the thing admitted how he used bots to flood the Rotten Tomatoes site because men need to be reinstalled as rulers of society.

Based on the collapse at the box office, it's the general audience that is really ruining Last Jedi's RT score.

Is it really a collapse? This was a top heavy film with everyone wanting to see it the first week, so of course it drops a lot after that. It's still on the way to being the #1 film of 2017. That's hardly a failure in anyone's books.

Sure, among the die-hard fans who are also the loudest on the internet, it may be not as successful, but they're not the majority of film-goers.

I loved the scenes with Luke, Rey and Ben but everything else was mediocre, its not a very good film.

They should name Part 9 : Politically Correct and the Uprising of the Offended.
