Quote:
Quentin Tarantino is ready to explore strange new worlds.

The filmmaker has a pitch for a Star Trek film, and he has shared his vision with J.J. Abrams, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Tarantino and Abrams have plans to bring together a writers room to develop a film at Star Trek studio Paramount. Tarantino has an eye to direct the potential project.

The studio had no comment.

Abrams rebooted the franchise with 2009's Star Trek and also directed 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness, before pivoting to Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He remains a producer on the Star Trek franchise even as he readies 2019's Star Wars: Episode IX. Paramount previously stated it was developing a fourth Star Trek film to star Chris Hemsworth as Captain Kirk's (Chris Pine) father, but no director has been attached and it's unclear where this Tarantino development leaves the project. The latest installment, Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond (2016), was well-liked by critics but earned just $343.4 million worldwide, the lowest in the rebooted universe.

In a 2015 Nerdist podcast interview, Tarantino revealed he'd be more likely to direct a Star Trek film over a Star Wars film, noting he was a big fan of the original series.

"The only thing that limited them was their '60s budget and eight-day shooting schedule," he said. "You could take some of the classic Star Trek episodes and easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some amazing, amazing stuff." Tarantino called the time-travel focused Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" as one of the best Trek episodes ever written.

Tarantino next tackles an untitled Charles Manson-themed project, due out in 2019.

Yes please - as long as it's not his last film.

Doesn't this go over ten films?

I am only a fan of one of these three components; Tarantino. So I am not excited at all. I hope it all falls through. This has not been the first time Tarantino has talked about franchise directing, and in 30 years he hasn't filmed a single second, so I am not too worried.

I'm onboard with Tarantino, but they've got to dump that hack Abrams.

I don't understand why Abrams is quoted here. I highly doubt his influence was very big in the last movie. If Tarantino comes in it will be more of this movie than Abrams.

Idk if Tarantino's style would translate to Star Trek.

Tarantino's films, though ostensibly dramas, have an integral sense of humor - sounds just right for Star Trek to me.

I can't imagine he'll actually direct it, but even a QT scripted or plotted ST movie is probably 10x better than anything else they were planning.

Tarantino has also signed on to direct a remake of The Sound of Music.

Here's the teaser-trailer.

Kind of love this. Tarantino's career can be split up into groups (Pulp-Reservoir-Jackie, Kill Bill 1-Kill Bill 2-Grindhouse, Inglorious Basterds-Django-Hateful Eight) so I wonder if he would stay in space after

Or in other words;

Gangster (Pulp-Reservoir-Jackie)
Retro(Kill Bill 1-Kill Bill 2-Grindhouse)
Period (Inglorious Basterds-Django-Hateful Eight)

Don’t forget that simple Midas touch (True Romance, Natural born killers, from dusk til dawn, and sin city)

Imagine they give him 60 million, and the entire film is at Chekov’s funeral. If there was ever time to Logan a franchise it is Star Trek. Make it like the big chill
