Found out today my favorite book is becoming a movie. I've wanted this to happen ever since I first read it. I was relieved to see it's in the hands of a talented filmmaker (Luca Guadagnino of A Bigger Splash, I Am Love fame) and starring a talented name actor in Armie Hammer. I'd always envisioned someone like Joe Wright or, after A Single Man, Tom Ford would direct it. But having seen A Bigger Splash last week I'm pretty pleased with whose behind the camera. The novel is just so amazing. Great writing, beautiful, heartbreaking. I know it can be a great movie if done right.

Article and some set pics: http://awardswatch.com/news/luca-guadagninos-call-me-by-your-name-starring-armie-hammer-and-timothee-chalamet/

The book is by André Aciman and I cannot recommend it enough.

Since when is Armie Hammer a talented actor?

I don't know how far Hammer's acting chops go but I've liked him in everything I've seen him in. Reaper, Social Network, Man From U.N.C.L.E., and I'm sure I'm forgetting something else. I think he'll do well in this role.

This is also my favorite book and I am SO excited to see this finally come to the screen. Hoping it's great because I definitely think it could be an Oscar type film if done correctly.

I've only liked Hammer in Man From U.N.C.L.E. (which would have been even better had the leads been gay mmm)

I've never seen The Lone Ranger. But he was fun in Mirror Mirror.

And yes, I would bone him. ;) Not totally my type but he is a good looking guy.

I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed The Lone Ranger. I think he's a decent actor.

I'll watch it if there's nudity. Otherwise probably not.

Honestly, I'm goddamned shocked that Hollywood hasn't tried to revive the erotic thriller with a queer vibe. An all-female (or all male) remake of Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, etc.

A fun, sexy thriller might expand some folks' horizons sexually...similar to how the thrillers of the 90's allowed many straight women to accept that they enjoyed watching Sharon Stone get naked within the safety of a glossy, studio-produced blockbuster.

I'm kind of surprised they haven't tried making a mainstream gay romance after Brokeback Mountain did so well. A Nicholas Sparks type movie with a same-sex romance at its center. Release it for Valentine's Day. Could do alright.

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up worldwide rights.

Quote:
One of the buzziest titles to debut at this month’s Sundance Film Festival is already off the market. “Call Me By Your Name,” a gay love story in the tradition of “Brokeback Mountain,” has sold to Sony Pictures Classics, Variety has learned.

The deal for worldwide rights, estimated to be north of $6 million, was struck after several buyers expressed serious interest. The movie will debut in the upcoming Park City festival’s Premieres section on Jan. 22.

“Call Me By Your Name,” adapted from the 2007 novel by Andre Aciman, follows an affair after a chance meeting in 1980s Italy between a 17-year-old boy (Timothee Chalamet from “Homeland”) and a twentysomething man (Armie Hammer). It’s not clear what the movie will be rated, but the book involves a sexually explicit act with a peach and other charged moments.

The film was made by acclaimed Italian director Luca Guadagnino (“A Bigger Splash”) and produced by Emilie Georges, Guadagnino, James Ivory, Marco Morabito, Howard Rosenman, Peter Spears and Rodrigo Teixeira.

Executive producers include Naima Abed, Tom Dolby, Sophie Mas, Francesco Melzi, Lourenco Sant’Anna, Derek Simonds and Margarethe Baillou.

The early sale for “Call Me By Your Name” coincides with a trend happening at film festivals, where hot properties are scooped up early, as distributors are eager to avoid all-night bidding wars with deep-pocketed players like Netflix. Last year’s Sundance featured two such big auctions for “The Birth of a Nation” (which sold for a record-breaking $17.5 million to Fox Searchlight) and “Manchester by the Sea” ($10 million to Amazon Studios). The rest of the titles in 2016 either arrived with distribution in tow or found homes in a slow trickle of deals.

WME and UTA Independent Film Group handed the sale.

This is easily my most anticipated movie of the year by far. The book is my favorite book of all time. It's so heartbreaking and beautiful. I hope we don't have to wait too long to see it in theaters.

I'm hoping for possibly an early summer release. Would be a perfect summer movie. I'm eager for reviews to come out after it debuts at the Park City festival January 22nd. I really hope it's well-received.

Just saw James Ivory co-produced it. One of my favorite directors. Glad to see his is still active. He made what may be the greatest LGBT film of all-time, Maurice.

I've been reading tweets since the premiere ended about how utterly amazing it is. Haven't seen a bad one yet. Masterpiece has been thrown around. Many say it's the best they've seen yet. It got a standing ovation. I'm so, so happy this was well-received. Now please don't wait until fall to release this! Summer would be perfect. I need to see it ASAP. Maybe in the meantime I'll read the book again.

This is David's opinion. RT score be damned.

For me the best is Brokeback Mountain.

It was an inside joke. He just wants David to see Tangerine but David ignores his suggestion at every turn. :funny:

Quote:
Even as he beguiles us with mystery, Guadagnino recreates Elio’s life-changing summer with such intensity that we might as well be experiencing it first-hand. It’s a rare gift that earns him a place in the pantheon alongside such masters of sensuality as Pedro Amodóvar and François Ozon, while putting “Call Me by Your Name” on par with the best of their work.

Mirror Mirror was a great movie and Lone Ranger was a good movie and Armie Hammer wasn't the problem with Man From UNCLE.
