Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
I don't particularly like when studios do that because I think 30 minutes is just too much and then you have to rewtch them when you watch the actual film, but it was attached to the Why Him? press screening today, so I was there anyway.
It was reasonably creepy. Strong Shutter Island vibe with what I think is Jacob's Ladder mixed into it.

Did they change the title at the last minute?

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
I would rather it be more The Ring than Shutter Island which wasn't anything great. But I definitely got a Shutter Island vibe from the trailer. I'm glad Verbinski is making a horror film again but the subject matter isn't the most appealing.

By the way, this film is 146 minutes long. Lol

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
Is the 146-minute length confirmed? I know Google says so when one searches for the film, but their information is frequently incorrect.

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
I did not attend the first press screening last Monday, but a friend of mine did and confirmed the running time to me. He also said that he needs a day to process this film because his mind was thoroughly fucked.

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
Interesting. I know Verbinski made very long films with the Pirates trilogy and The Lone Ranger, but I expected this would be in the neighborhood of 105-120 minutes.
Anyway, this is one of my most anticipated of the year.

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
My friend told me that the runtime is deserved and he never felt it to drag.
I still think it is kinda insane for a film like this to go on for this long. Its financial prospects seem very bleak. Dane DeHaan is nobody to general moviegoers and a 146 minute runtime will allow for fewer showings and will also scare off younger moviegoers who are usually the target audience for these films. Shutter Island had Scorsese and DiCaprio going for it...

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
Even if it was 90 minutes, it wouldn't do well.

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
I thought it was pretty good, although the ending veers more towards silly than creepy. Really well shot too.
Without credits the movie is about 2 hours and 21 minutes... at least it didn't feel that long to me.

This had a very clever Super Bowl spot.

Fox is marketing this pretty hard.

Re: Saw the first 30 minutes of A Cure for Wellness
I definitely don't see this catching on with general moviegoers, but the marketing is making it look more accessible than it is.

Yeah the SB ad was good. I still think it's going to open 8-11 Million though.

Yeah, audiences will not embrace it...

I thought reviews from critics would be better even if audiences hated it.
