The big news from this thing:

Quote:
Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

Not sure how much truth there is to this....

Not surprising, it might actually be good if they ensure GL doesn't direct.

EDIT.

or write.

It seems way too fishy. 2015 is really soon. They would have to start filming by the end of next year.

I think they're just being aggressive, they'll push it back a year or two if they cant get it cast by early 2014.

Lucas has stories 7, 8, and 9 already written. Luke is the lead and is like 70 years old.

This is honest to god the most shocking movie news I've ever seen. Just wow.

The 2015 date is fishy, but I'm convinced episode 7 is happening within the next 5 years. No way Disney doesnt do this acquistion without having serious talks with Lucas about doing EP7.
I don't think it is at all. They already have Lucas' script treatments for the trilogy, and 2 1/2 years is plenty of time with that in mind.

We all know Episode 7 is just going to be horrible so no need to wait till 2015 or whenever.

But seriously what the living fuck?

There is also this from Yahoo

Quote:
It's also making a seventh movie in the "Star Wars" series called "Episode 7," set for release in 2015, with plans to follow it with Episodes 8 and 9 and then one new movie every two or three years.

Episode 10 it is...

More SW movies were inevitable. The Star Wars brand = free money at an absurd level. Plus it's extremely easy to make sequels. They can use the same cities and names, carry over a few characters that don't age over a 60 year gap or w/e from the last series and make references to the war of the past, make the hot chick love interest have the last name Solo, etc.

It could be good if given to the right person. They could try to tempt J.J. Abrams away from Star Trek (we know he is huge Star Wars fan) or maybe Peter Jackson or some hot filmmaker.

BGE!

The main reason why I think 2015 is fishy is cause Avengers 2 is already set for May 2015. Is Disney really going to release both in the same summer?
Disney has so many potential blockbusters at this point, between Marvel, Pixar, Disney Animation, Pirates, and now Star Wars, that there might not be much hesitance from a financial point of view (like there was with WB and The Dark Knight/Half Blood Prince). Releasing Episode 7 in July would give them plenty of time between Avengers for marketing purposes, too, I would think.

Also you know that at some point after they get tired of just making straight up sequel trilogies or the prequel trilogy to the prequel trilogy, they're just going to say 'F*ck it, we'll just remake the originals'. By like 2030 that generation likely won't have seen much of the original trilogy 70 years beforehand anyways and the OT will probably look like dogsh*t compared to 2030 film visuals, so like Star Trek it can be rebooted

Also, Lucas just got PAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID. 4 billion is fucking crazy (I'm assuming he doesn't get all of it, but he's still damn rich).

A non-Lucas Star Wars movie has great potential. Lots of talented people at Disney could be attached to this.

One also has to think that the Indiana Jones franchise will be revived again. With Ford or not is a separate story.

Does Spielberg have enough rights to cockblock it? Cause yeah, I'd definitely see a young, recast Indy Jones coming. And I'd honestly be happy to see them doing it. Indy is like a weird cousin of James Bond, I don't mind at all them changing the actor considering the lack of storyline threads from movie to movie.

Reboot Back to the Future will also happen if there's nothing/nobody blocking it. And of course, Pirates of the Caribbean will be relaunched either with a recast Jack Sparrow or a brand new main character

I forgot the other lock for a franchise that'll be re-trilogied: The Matrix. People would show up for the Matrix coming back.

Just realized Disney owns all of the Avengers/Marvel, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean, and huge Pixar products like Nemo and The Incredibles

Epic shitting money is epic

I read that Disney had purchased marvel for 3.96 billion so the 4 billion figured seemed like a low value perception wise. I would think the star wars brand and lucasfilm elementsin TV, gaming and other merchandise would have been worth more.
