 Mike Leigh vs. Ken Loach I realize not many here have probably seen a lot of their works, but I'll give this a try.
Who of the two is your favorite British director of Social Conscience Cinema?
I haven't seen all of their films. From Loach I have seen The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Bread and Roses, My Name Is Joe and The Angel's Share.
As for Mike Leigh, I've seen Secrets and Lies, Happy-Go-Lucky, All or Nothing, Another Year and Vera Drake.
My vote definitely goes to Mike Leigh.

Re: Mike Leigh vs. Ken Loach Tough. I prefer Kes to any single Leigh film, but Leigh's oeuvre in general may be a hair superior. I will vote for Leigh.
Arthur, I highly recommend Naked and the aforementioned Kes.

I have nevrr thought I'd wind up liking Leigh as much as I do, but, yeah, he's great. Secret and Lies is a very very good movie.
