This is, of course, a very challenging poll to create when limited to just 20 options. I tried my best, but I expect many "other" votes. Lists would be fun. |

1. Harrison Ford (The man has starred in more "Best films ever" than any other actor) 2. Cary Grant (Just as charming and cool off screen as on) 3. Steve McQueen (Just a crazy motherfucker, and a badass) 4. Bill Murray (Hilarious, doesn't take shit from anyone) 5. George Clooney (Bangs every gorgeous woman, definitely the Cary Grant of the current generation) 6. Sean Connery (It's the real James Bond for gods sake, and he only got cooler with age) 7. Bruce Willis (A man's man, he's the uncle you wish you had) 8. Tom Hanks (Amazing talent, and quite hilarious in person) 9. Jack Nicholson (Nothing needs to be said about him) 10. Kurt Russell (Anyone who has ever heard a DVD commentary should know he's awesome, and best hair ever) |

Coolest? Takeshi Kitano. But out of the options available, I'd probably go with Clint Eastwood. Al Pacino is anything but cool. Same with Tom Cruise. They get pissed off and upset too often in films. Robert De Niro should have probably been in the list. I see coolness as portrayed in films because I didn't know them outside of their films. |

Wow, was this tough, so I ended up breaking it down by decades: 50s: Toshiro Mifune 60s: Clint Eastwood 70s: Jack Nicholson 80s: Harrison Ford 90s: N/A 00s: Daniel Craig Hon Mention: Sean Connery Overall: Clint Eastwood |

Harrison Ford isn't cool. Johnny Depp is only cool because he can't act any other emotion. When it comes to cool movie stars, there's only half a dozen that really qualify. |

Cary Grant epitomized coolness. Supposedly even Ian Fleming was inspired by Grant while creating Bond character. |

Cary Grant would be my third choice behind Kitano and Clint. Then Connery in fourth. |

It can be hard to separate a star from his era. Bogart was mighty cool in his day, but he would be a total comedy ham if he did his bit in a film today. Though I believe Steve McQueen's cool transcends any single generation. I believe he could easily coexist alongside today's cool leading men, such as Daniel Craig and Jeremy Renner. |

Forgot about Bogart. Yeah, he'd be in there too. Modern day cool men? Hmm, Clooney, Owen and Statham, I guess. |

Oh yes, if we go back to the 40s, he's the king of cool for that decade. |

If this thread was on coolest leading man of the 60's, there would be no other choice than Steve McQueen - - in the bigger picture of the past half century, my vote remains with Nicholson - - both for his films and for his legendary private life. |

Can I ask why all these threads being created in this forum are all about actors, with nary a thread about the top 3 films of an actress of any kind? |

His characters are awesome. It's pretty well known that when he's not making movies, he parties, smokes a lot of pot, drinks, and flies his planes. He sucks at interviews, because he gets nervous, but when he's comfortable, he's actually pretty hilarious and cool. Al Pacino is much like in real life the way he appeared in Jack and Jill, definitely not cool. Him, Nick Cage, and Depp are probably the three weirdest leading men out there. |

Yeah, someone that gets nervous in interviews is definitely not someone that I'd label as "cool", let alone the coolest leading man of the last 50 years. His characters may be awesome, but that's not what the thread is asking. |

More than anything, this is a thread about the definition of 'cool'. So, Clint. |
