Good God, Burton is probably the perfect candidate for this category.

Just watched Matchstick Men and loved it. Then I go to the review page on here and find I'm quite alone in my love for it. Some liked it, many hated it. So I guess that qualifies?

I don't know, it held my attention straight through. But I have an unusual love for all things Cage lately, so that might be it. Still think it's a great movie.

Matchstick Men is a very good movie. It's the last film by Sir Ridley that I felt fully achieved what it set out to do. Hopefully he returns to top form soon.

Matchstick Men was superb.... until the ending, which I thought ruined its greatness. I have been meaning to revisit this movie again someday though. I was so pissed about the ending after the first time I watched it. Maybe it would work better for me this time around.

I've honestly never minded the ending. Or at least not as much as you did. It does bother me a bit how
Spoiler: show
Cage is SO nice to her in the carpet store--she did prey on his emotions and steal all his cash--yet at the same time...it'd be such a cruel ending if it cut to black right after the con is revealed. Because ultimately it's a study of Cage's character and his struggles with mental illness, not a conventional long-con crime movie where the twist is everything.

I laughed sooo hard with Land of the Lost. Funnier than The Hangover, IMO.

And Sucker Punch seems like a recent valid entry, though I'm glad to see it get some nods here. Also, motion-capture films by Robert Zemeckis are not without some fans, but lately everyone seems to hate hard on the technology. I think that Beowulf and A Christmas Carol had the best depth of field with 3D that I've seen to date. The way the camera zooms in and around objects is spellbinding. In particular, the 13-minute long one shot take of Scrooge's past in A Christmas Carol is pretty impressive.

I LOVED Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol. Wish it was better received by audiences and critics.

Bzzztttt!

Wrong.

The correct answer was: Speed Racer must be watched in first run IMAX to fully appreciate it.

This thread is jumping the shark. Matchstick Men? Cars? The Incredible Hulk? This thread isn't, "Most everyone thought, 'Eh, didn't change the world, but decent enough,' but you liked it?," people. :P

Superman IV: The Quest for Piece. So much heart, an interesting if preachy storyline, Reeve as good as ever, but god awful budget. If they had a decent budget it had some great potential. Lex Luthor wouldn't have created Nuclear Man but cloned Superman instead and created Bizarro with Reeve playing both parts. The original Superman franchise in general is what is the very example of how a studio can fuck with the source material so much. It's nice to see superhero films getting so much more freedom nowadays. Its like the complete opposite of Batman and Robin where they threw so much money at that shit and hope it stuck.

And I love the original Halloween series, except part 3.

Yeah I know, but I like the answers. I didn't think there'd be many people answering "Date Movie" or "The Hottie and the Nottie".

You can add me to the Date Movie fan club!

Sure, it's your opinion and all, and can't be argued, but why in the world would you bother going to a low comedy genre spoof like this if it's not your cup of tea (or hummus as the case may be). This is a quality film within it's parameters. It stars the adorable red headed comedienne, Alyson Hannigan, ably supported by newcomer Adam Campbell as Grant Funkyerdoder - not to mention a sterling supporting cast of old pros and talented rookies.

If I were to compare it to another movie, such as Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, (one of my favorite movies of last year), I would have to say that Date Movie is a terrible bird documentary. But how silly would I have to be to judge it on those standards?

The only reason I haven't graded this movie 5 out of 5, is that many of the movies it has chosen to spoof are crappy in their own right and unworthy of it's attention (eg: Meet the Fokkers, LOTR, etc.).

4 out of 5.

With The AVENGERS looming ever so closer, one really appreciates The INCREDIBLE HULK more than ever and hopefully, MARVEL uses the template of the HULK in TIH for The AVENGERS.. For whatever reason or another, Hollywood can't seem top get the FX right for the HULK, but at least he looked fierce and the law of physics were spot on in TIH vs Ang Lee's shitfest known as HULK 2003..
