Post subject: | Your favorite M. Night Shyamalan movie - Updated poll |
Okay, M. Night Shyamalan has been one of the hot topics in the world of movies this year and besides that I have had a successful thread running on him at BOM, so I decided to transfer that here. First of all, what do you think of M. Night Shyamalan? Do you like his style? Discuss this moviemaker, that has been branded the "new Steven Spielberg" by many movie experts some years ago. My favorite movie directed by him is The Sixth Sense, by far and away. Signs is behind it. Unbreakable was pretty disappointing, but still nice. The Village, however, was a sore disappointment that oozed mediocrity and ranks as one of the worst movies I have seen this year so far. This is my list: 1. The Sixth Sense - A 2. Signs - A- 3. Unbreakable - B- 4. The Village - C |

The Sixth Sense. Each one of his movies has been weaker then the one before it, IMO. |

The Sixth Sense, by far. All the other three fall behind it, but I would rank Signs second I guess. The last two are way behind, though. |

Unbreakable. The closest thing to a masterpiece he's ever done. The only thing that stops it from being one of my all time favorites is that last damn frame with that stupid text scroll that wraps everything up in a nice, neat package. What a terrible, terrible decision that was. |

What a terrible, terrible decision that was. Don't agree with the first part, but its ending is indeed one of the worst I've seen. |

Most of you guys know my feelings on the guy. He's not bad, but way overrated. His films are sloppy, and the twist ending thing has never impressed me in his films like other films. The Sixth Sense was predictable. Unbreakable was like something just thrown in there for the sake of having a twist ending, and cheapened the film. Signs was a contrived ending, with a very lame alien invasion and defeat. Haven't seen the Village, and I'm in no hurry to. Shyamalan is an average filmmaker. There's quite a list of people who are better writers and better directors than he is. I have no idea how he conned so many people into sweeping his sloppiness under the rug, but I have to hand it to the guy for being able to do that. |

Hands down his best was Sixth Sense. Signs was decent, until the ending, but would be his second best. Unbreakable was damn near unwatchable, but it was slightly better than the Village which was vomit inducing. |

Unbreakable - A+: I udnerstand why most people do not like it though. It just touched me in a different way Signs - A Solid A: Its a movie that I thought was a B+ the first time I saw it but the more I saw it, the more I appreciated the ending and how it compliments the rest of the story. For most people, its rewatchability value goes down. For me, it rose. Sixth Sense - A: I still remember the circumstances surrounding the watching of this movie. 2nd time I had ever been out of Pakistan, had just moved to Montreal to study. It was my first night there. Didnt know anyone at all, my brother was to arrive a day later and I had about 15 dollars on me. I was homesick, and with a map, walked out in downtown montreal, already having trouble with the french accents but trying to manage, feeling extremely lost and just terrible. I stopped by a McDonalds to eat, then kept walking till I got to Paramount Cinema. I said what the hell. I was down to 10.50 and the ticket was for a 10, i spent it and caught the 12am show. I walked about 16 blocks at 3 in the morning (something impossible to do in karachi) and came and lay on my bed. The movie was amazing, but it wasnt the appropriate movie for me to watch considering my circumstances. Village - Whatver grade I gave on KJ. Now as bad as people make it out to be but I certainly see the problem with it. |

Unbreakable was great. The tension between the reluctant superhero and his son was great. The scene where the kid points the gun at his dad is awesome. |
