"In a Variety article talking about Tilda Swinton's new film I Am Love, that film's director Luca Guadagnino says his production company First Sun is moving forward on a remake of Dario Argento's 1977 cult horror pic Suspiria. Shooting will start in 2010 and David Gordon Green is still attached to direct.

In early 2008, David Gordon Green told us about his remake plans:

CS: What's the horror movie about?
Green: It's a remake of a Dario Argento movie called "Suspiria". These Italian producers came to me about it wanting to a pretty amazing, ambitious, artistic…It's in English about a New York ballet student that goes to Germany, but yeah, it can be pretty wild. We'll shoot in Europe."

Yes, I don't know what's worse, that Suspiria gets remade or that DGG directs again.

I can't even understand how Susperia could get a hollywood style remake. The style and structure of te original makes it impossible in my eyes.

They've tried remaking this for, like, five years now.

It's hardly impossible.

Anyway, just watched the original tonight. It was good, but I don't have a problem with a remake. The lighting and music in the original were fantastic and I'm not sure they can top that, but I do think, as a whole, they can improve upon the original. And at least it won't have annoying dubbing.

Isabelle Fuhrman of Orphan has been cast in the lead. She was great in that movie.

Luca Guadagnino has two movies I can't wait to see this year (this and Call Me By Your Name). Also looking forward to seeing Dakota Johnson in the lead.

It will possibly get released this fall.

So this is the teaser poster.

Not sure I really like it (but then I don't care for the original). Does red spray paint have much to do with this story?

Anyway, there was as screening at CinemaCon for it (or maybe just a sneak at the trailer, not exactly sure) and it's apparently gruesome as fuck so the studio are advising people to be prepared, and even jokingly dared people not to vomit.

They showed just one scene that involves a dancer. If I were a horror fan I’d be really excited right now.

It's my most-anticipated movie of the year. I hope it releases wide-ish at least. I definitely want to catch it theatrically even if it's 3 hours long.

Is it 3 hours long?

Well, that'll be cut for cinemas. Has to be. No way that exhibitors/distributors will want a 3-hour horror film.

It's Amazon. They probably won't care. Plus if it does go wide it would be like 1,000 theaters or so. Not much more.

Ok, didn't know it was Amazon, but they'll still care. If not because it will go theatrical, also because Amazon still want people to watch as much as they can. Spending a whole three hours on just one piece of content is not as valuable as watching more smaller pieces. They'll have their algorithms to determine what is the most suitable length to adhere to their strategies, and it won't be as high as 180 minutes. I would be very, very surprised if the final cut is that long.

Ok, apparently it's between 2 and a half and 3 hours. Initial reports last July said it was near 3 hours long.
