What are your views on Westerns. I love them as they are such a mixture of simple and complex ideas in the same movie. Best western: Lonesome Dove. Like NCAR said, it's TV, but it's the best western and the best mini-series I've ever seen. It's required viewing for anyone who's remotely interested in Westerns. Also, Open Range and Dances With Wolves (yes, it's a Western) are great. It's been so long since I've seen older westerns, but I would mention True Grit and The Searchers. |

The searchers is the greatest of them all,Its in my top 10 alltime films. Also staring john wayne,red river is the second best western.John wayne was THE man. The good,the bad and the ugly is also very good. Can the grapes of wrath be considered a western?thats also one of the great films. |

The Good the Bad and the Ugly Unforgiven Rio Bravo Tombstone Bandolero The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean Winchester '73 Man it's such a good genre. Among old westerns, I'm not much of a Wayne fan though I do find Dean Martin and James Stewart were surprisingly good in westerns. I really didn't like High Plains Drifter, it had no moral compass. Eastwood's character rapes a woman in the early scenes. |

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly Da di da di daaaaa du da doooooo... Okay, maybe that's not how it goes... But, it was the first western I ever watched next to Open Range (also very good), and, even after watching Unforgiven, A Fistful of Dollars, and The Searchers, it still stands out. Esp. the score
