Bruce was caught at the Rock the Kasbah premiere and was asked about the prequel idea: "It's a very good idea, a really tricky idea, and I'm very happy about it," Willis shared. "It's a really cool idea, because it's the origin story. It's gonna happen at the beginning of this. We're going to bounce back and forth."

I don't know. I don't get the impression that he is overly fond of it.

Deadline posted a brief update about this today re: the tough task of cast the younger version of Willis' character.

Anyway, the working title appears to be JOHN MCCLAINE per an Instagram post Wiseman made earlier in the year. I'm not a fan, but Die Hard Year One probably doesn't make a lot of sense for audiences.

I hope they keep it low-key, otherwise it makes his character in Die Hard seem like an action pro, when that really isn't the point.

Can Hollywood please please stop recycling and reheating these tired old franchises? You attract so much amazing talent every year. There are a billion incredible ideas for original IP out there. You have money. You have the messaging and the ability to create hits out of non-established properties. Stop thinking of your year end bonuses for once and use all those resources for good. /rant

It sounds like that's the plan. I'm sure there will be explosions, it's likely they'll be exclusive to the Willis sections of the film. The flashbacks will follow 1979 McClaine on a lower wattage adventure on New Year's Eve 1980.

I have no clue would be good for the role. Someone 22-25 (or at least someone who can pass for early 20's) who can kick ass and be a lovable wiseass.

As long as it is not Jai Courtney.

Sounds like a weird idea personally.

Also silly Fox and Willis. Over all of these years, they had the opportunity to make a Die Hard film with one of the most bad ass action titles ever, Die Hard: Die Hardest.

Ever since I saw Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder as a kid, I dreamed of a Die Hard sequel called Die Hard: Die Hardest.

Instead, after the excellent Die Hard With A Vengeance, we got some rather ho hum titles of Live Free or Die Hard and A Good Day to Die Hard. Neither of those sequels were exceptional, Although Live Free or Die Hard was somewhat decent.

In a perfect world, a few years after Die Hard With a Vengeance, Fox would have made Die Hard: Die Hardest with John McTiernan returning to direct.

Just Die Hardest would do. But I agree, it is an excellent title to end the franchise on (if they had never made the fourth and fifth movies). Now the franchise is just doomed because Bruce is shit and nobody cares about these movies.

Yup. Now I just reminisce about what could have been every time I rewatch Die Hard 1-3.

And Die Hard 2 isn't even that good, but it's miles better (mainly because it's still Bruce from the first) than the fifth and fourth (which aren't Die Hard movies to me, they're just other Bruce actioners).

Yes. For me the John McTiernan Die Hards are still the best.

For me it goes:

Die Hard 1/Die Hard 3 tied. I can't choose which one is better, I equally like both for different reasons.
Die Hard 2
everything else

Similar for me.

Die Hard A+
Die Hard with a Vengeance A
Live Free or Die Hard C+
Die Hard: Die Harder C
A Good Day to Die Hard D

As just movies, these are the grades. But as Die Hard movies, the second is better than the fourth. If that makes sense.

Gotta agree with all the above. 1 & 3 are excellent films I watch multiple times a year. 4 is good even if it doesn't feel like a Die Hard movie. 2 is meh, it's never sat right with me. 5 is bad and is best forgotten.

It's strange, for years I held the second up as a great film, then watched it a few years ago and was shocked at how bad it is.

It's pretty much everything bad about sequels in that era.

The worst part is that McClane is pretty much unlikable in it. He's an asshole know-it-all whose jokes fall flat. Thankfully Willis was humbled professionally by the time DH:WAV shot and remembered how to play the character as an ENDEARING asshole.

This seems to be bad idea. I think they should try to reboot it WITHOUT Jai Courtney.

Seems like this is still happening, FOX just hired the guys who wrote both Conjuring movies for a rewrite.

Post subject:  Re: Fox developing combo Die Hard prequel/sequel

There you go. Make a Conjuring/ Die Hard film.

"John McClaine has beaten buildings, terrorists, airplanes, cities, the internet, and Jai Courtney's acting. But now... He's in the wrong place at the wrong time, His Daughter's Exorcism. Not to mention Holly has come to visit, and an old drug lord with an axe to grind gets his gang back together to settle the score. Can John protect his family once again and his home, which only has one more payment on it. And his insurance doesn't cover the supernatural or bullets"

Then just when you think everything is going wrong and John is too old for this shit. The exorcised demon kills the drug lord.

Having violent adult movies under the Disney roof will be weird. I remember they had Touchstone but they weren’t churning out major tentpoles.

Yeah, it's going to be weird. I do expect that Disney will end up rebooting most of FOX's core franchises (even if this DH movie happens, it's almost certainly the last with Willis) so it's possible they'll aim for PG-13 Die Hard, Aliens, etc.

Taking a leaf out of Stallone's book, it will be titled McClane.

Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance are such great films. I even enjoy Die Hard: Die Harder and Live Free or Die Hard, but holy shit was a A Good Day to Die Hard bad. You could just tell Willis didn't give a fuck at that point, and I fail to see why it would be any different with this new film which sounds fucking stupid btw.

How would everyone feel about a sequel that went the Halloween route: ignoring everything but the original (or ideally: the original and With a Vengeance)?

Post subject:  Re: Fox developing combo Die Hard prequel/sequel

At this point I think it doesn't matter what or what they don't include, just because both the franchise after its last film and Willis with his career have lost a lot of goodwill to make this a success.
