At 2004 Palm Springs International Film Festival , "The Best of Youth" (a six-hours epic) won the Audience Award, thumbing its nose at "The Barbarian Invasions" , "Infernal Affairs", "Good Bye, Lenin!" and a host of other hyped films. Surprisly, Harvey Weinstein, who always cuts his movie, said that he love this movie so much, so he will release this movie UNCUT. If he loves a movie that much, this movie should be very good. Miramax will release this movie in two parts on 3/2/05(each 3 hours long). Unlucky, this movie is getting minimal publicity(mostly due to the battle between the Weinsteins and Disney?). This Sunday's NY times has a article to talk about it, though. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/27/movies/27scot.html More detail about this movie. http://filmforum.com/films/bestofyouth.html |

If they release TWO seperate movies on 3/2/05, Part 2 will bomb. How many people will see Part 2 first? How many people will see both parts in the same weekend? They can at least wait a week... |

They can at least wait a week... I predicted that both parts would BOMB In fact, it opened in "Film Forum" and gets $6,450 at opening weekend. It is a strong number because this movie only has 3 screenings per day. http://filmforum.com/films/bestofyouth.html |

They released it as two movies here. a part I and a part II, but they are showing them simultaneously (and appropriately times). Looks to me like most people are calling it a theatre day and watching back-to-back, because when I went to see downfall yesterday both the 4 pm Part I and the 7 pm Part II were already sold out at about 3.15 (makes me think people buying the 4 pm I went ahead and already pre=purchased the 7 pm II). sold out in any case, so definately pretty popular here. |

Actually, this movie gets $10,325 on second weekend. http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ ... =10&p=.htm Unlucky, the theatrical run in "Film Forum" is finished. ![]() "Royal Theaters" in Los Angeles will open this movie on 3/18, though. |

Hopefully it will expand to other cities later. I recently read a review in The Atlanta Journal/Constitution which was in essence a glowing review of it. I don't know if I'll see it in theaters or not, but I definately want to see this film at some point. |

Moving to Royal Theaters( in Los Angeles ), it seems like that this movie is more popular that it was in New York. $17,200 on third weekend. http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ ... =11&p=.htm |

[quote="A.O.Scott"]"The story this six-hour film from Italy tells is full of nuance and complexity, but it is also as accessible and engrossing as a grand 19th-century novel." Sounds good to me. Anything that intentionally feels like a book from the 1800's is at least worthy of an attempted view. Its good to finally see Italy putting out some films again. They did I'm Not Scared last year but have really fallen off the face of the planet since Life is Beautiful. With 91% approval at rt and surprisingly high box office for a movie that is six hours long and not a fantasy/adventure, I'm going to officially welcome them back. |

So, I'm assuming that the box office gross is for both parts then, considered as one since it is billed as a single movie with an intermission? |

Yes, the box office gross is for both parts. Anyway, the box office gross is still very good, because this movie only has 3 screenings per day (including the screenings of Part 1 and Part 2) http://www.laemmle.com/viewtheatre.php?thid=1 |

Finally, this movie decreases on fourth weekend; $10,200 on fourth weekend (which is still strong for the movie that only has 3 screenings per day.) http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ ... =12&p=.htm The theatrical run in "Royal Theaters" will be finished on 3/31/2005; "Music Box Theatre" (in Chicago) will open this movie on 4/1/2005. I think that per showing gross will be under $10,000 next weekend. |

I´m ashamed I haven´t seen this yet. Its been on release here in Spain for more than a year now, on just one screen! But people keep going to watch it. WOM has been great, and several friends have told me is quite something, anough to watch both parts, six hours in total, back to back. It has been also out on DVD for months and still is being shown on the same one screen... Pretty amazing. Has anybody seen it, already? I am really curious for another opinion, maybe the one that would tell me to stand up and move my fat ass to the theatre to finally watch the damn film? |

This film is really showing strongly, considering its showtimes and theater count. I do think though that if this was in more then one theater at a time it would not be performing as well. I doubt it will ever show within a reasonable distance of me, but I will try to see it on DVD. |

His review isn't uploaded in his site, but I use the search engine of his site and find that he gives the six-hours epic movie "The Best of Youth" 4 stars. I will post his review~~~ BTW, the theatrical run in "Royal Theaters" (in LA) is finished . "The Best of Youth" will open in two theaters in this weekend. "Balboa Theater" (in San Francisco) http://www.balboamovies.com/program/index.html "Music Box Theatre" (in Chicago) http://www.musicboxtheatre.com/BestofYouth.html |

It'll do fantastically at Music Box. I love that theatre, and this seems like the kind of film that would go over well in the area. Has anyone actually managed to see it fully through yet? |

Has anyone actually managed to see it fully through yet? I hope that Roger Ebert's 4 stars review will help it to do well at Music Box. BTW, Roger Ebert's 4 stars review is here. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbc ... S/50310004 |

Despite Roger Ebert's 4-stars review, THE BEST OF YOUTH isn't popular in San Francisco and Chicago; it grossed $10,882 in 2 theaters in last weekend. It isn't very bad, but it definitely not great. However, for US total gross, THE BEST OF YOUTH has already grossed more than another Miramax-dumped movie INFERNAL AFFAIRS. |

Pffft, I did a search to see if there was a thread on it and found NOTHINGGGG  It's actually doing quite amazing when you consider it's running time. I wonder if it has any chance to be remembered cme awards time. I'll have to check it out when it comes out on DVD. |

Beautiful film. I'm happy that both part 1 & part 2 grossed a fantastic €500,000 each in the Netherlands. Still much more than the U.S. |

In San Francisco  http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... C7TBF1.DTL Quote: Without a last-minute reprieve, the six-hour Italian epic "The Best of Youth,'' shown in two three-hour segments, is set to end at the Balboa Theater on Thursday. There are only four prints of the movie in the United States, and Miramax wants to show it elsewhere, says the Balboa's Gary Meyer. Meyer says that through Sunday night, 9,197 had seen the first half, and 6,231 had seen the second (but many saw Part 1 twice). |
