My vision came early for this one so had to share. This is locked in stone.

Why is Spielberg making this?

I’d bank on Greengrass’ News of the World where Tom Hanks helps people in the Civil War.

because hes never done a musical before so why not.

Also, this will be Disneys first real big chance at a Best Picture in god knows how long. They will go all the fuck out for it.

Add in the fact that the Academy is leaning back to giving BP to more traditional crowd-pleasers, this fits the bill.

Yea but musical combined with remake is weird, and takes it away from an up and coming director. Why not make an original musical about passing a bill or something?

It's a remake of a musical that won a Best Picture oscar. Would be odd and just cant see it happening.

They're not going to give best picture to a remake of something that already won Best Picture.

A Hamilton movie could probably win best picture. Acclaimed music and lyrics+period war film+period political drama+diverse casting that will make the academy racist if it doesn't win=guaranteed win unless Tom Hooper directs it.

This will get horrendous reviews and miss a nomination.

I wouldn't have picked it myself, especially not so far in advance, but if Magnus says this is winning Best Picture it's best not to doubt him :P.

to be honest my vision on this is getting a bit hazier mainly cause I can’t for tell now the election will play out. If Trump wins then they’ll go with a serious drama film. If Trump loses they’re going with a wide appealing crowd pleaser.

Spielberg is also a massive blind spot for me and I tend to overrate his ability to win. I’m still utterly confused why Lincoln never won BP in 2013 after Obama won the re-election. It was the perfect film for that time. It had huge commercial success, strong critical reviews, and big star power attached. I still don’t get why Argo became this juggernaut.

So yeah I’m putting this on hold until later.
