No Jennifer Lopez is a shame. Her performance is better than who is winning now (Dern). Florence Pugh getting in is cool though.

No Taron either. Ugh. And weird Bale didn't get in but FvF got in for Picture.

And Joker got the most nominations, 11. Wow. OUATIH and 1917 got 10.

I have only seen Ford v Ferrari and Joker among the Best Picture noms. Both are well crafted but neither are outstanding.

I will see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood tomorrow and hope it will not disappoint. Parasite, and Marriage Story are my most anticipated movies which I will see soon.

Interestingly, The Farewell did not fare well.

The acting categories are pretty much set (Phoenix, Zellwegger, Pitt, Dern)

Picture I think will be between 1917 and Once. Parasite will win Director I feel. Think Gerwig may win Screenplay.

It's pretty crazy that back in 2004 ScarJo missed with 2 potential films (LiT, Girl with a Pearl Earring) and 16 years later gets double noms lol

It is so strange how often a "foreign" director wins, yet that doesn't translate to most other categories.

Post Re: Oscar Nominations
The diversity backlash is unfortunate, but Awkwafina, Lupita Nyung'o, and Greta Gerwig deserved nominations. It's difficult to see how they could've made it, though. Top 3 in Actress and Top 4 in Director were locked. The non-locks that made it (Erivo, Ronan, Phillips) were equally compelling.

J. Lo in Supporting Actress just made sense. That's a bad snub. AMPAS finds room for 11 nominations for the $1B comic book film, yet can't back an acclaimed supporting role by a major pop star?

That said, it's worth celebrating the 'new normal' that foreign-language films can nab top-of-line nominations. Huge accomplishment for Parasite.

Mad that Greta Gerwig didn't get the director nom.
She best win Adapted Screenplay.

Florence and Rian being nominated made me most happy.

Joker getting 11 makes me the opposite of that.

Taron missing a nom while Rami won last year is a joke.

Anyone here seen Two Popes? Like... I don't even know if I want to watch it.

It's quite funny. But it's not a statement piece. It doesn't belong in the consideration set this year.

Hey torri!

Even though I really like the crop of films this year, they still managed to do a number of annoying things.

1) Us had the best acting performance and score of the year. Completely snubbed.

2) Poor JLo. For fucking Richard Jewell too. :funny:

3) Fuck Todd Phillips

4) The Irishman for editing is a joke?

5) Speechless was best song #Academyhatesfictionalmiddleeasterncountries

6) Ford v Ferrari is old people pulp. I'm sure Josh Lucas' character did everything he could to sabotage the nomination.

That's all. Most of the nominations atleast went to solid films.

I haven't seen Irishman yet but I really like all the other nominees. Honestly Knives Out should've just got the 10th slot.

Parasite should shine with the passion(ish) voting system. It'll probably be in the 2-4 slot on most people's ballot and win quite easily once the first few films are eliminated.

There's gotta be an upset somewhere in the acting categories, and last year showed that being the front runner in a movie that people aren't watching doesn't always translate to win. So I think Scarlet gets it, with people voting for her overall year more than anything.

Studios really need to be reminded that if you have a great film/performance, it needs to release in the fall/winter.

Also, I 100% think OUATIH wins either Director or Picture. But not both.

People need to stop blurring two arguments. The industry needs to have more female director representation at the movies, not just nominate the only viable female option (Greta Gerwig). Because as far as I can tell, she was the only possible nominee.

That said, it should be pointed out how much she is snubbed for the category. This isn't the first time I've heard the female director argument and she's the name people say missed out. She's getting snubbed, while simultaneously, we need more films directed by women.

Lulu Wang should've been in the conversation, imo.

Post Re: Oscar Nominations
The implication that we should nominate Gerwig just cause she’s a woman is stupid... it appears Little Women was between the 7th and 9th strongest Best Picture nominee (OUATIH, Parasite, Irishman, 1917, Joker, Marriage Story are ahead) based on precursors and other nominations so it’s no surprise she didn’t get in. The bigger surprise miss in BD was her boyfriend. N’yongo, Awkwafina and Erivo were going for 1 spot if Zellweger, ScarJo, Theron and Ronan got in. The biggest POC snub is J Lo. Virtue signallers are going to virtue signal

We're talking about deserving nominations, not what was expected. Do you think Scorsese and Phillips directed their films better than Gerwig?

I really liked Little Women but even I don't really think Gerwig deserved it over who got nominated though haven't seen Irishman yet. More women need to get hired as directors. With what, 80%+ of movies directed by men it's not a huge surprise.

Right, it's ridiculous that we're not even close to a 50/50 split on directed films. I know for decades women didn't really direct at all, but I assume for the last 20-30 years there have been hundreds of new female directors. Could one really not have been hired to direct any of the highly nominated films? I know OUATIH/Joker/Irishman were "passion projects" or whatever, but damn man.
