I would've thought after the constant #metoo exposes that Hollywood would stop trying to act like the moral arbiter of the universe, yet the majority of films in contention this year revolve around a 'social interest' topic. I guess old habits die hard.

Looks like Roma is a legit chance to overcome the Netflix stigma and take BP.

They had to have voted before the director and writer apologizing. Who came in second.

So rather than black empowement the theme of the year will once again be “racist white people can change and deserve salvation and forgiveness.” I’m sure the acadmemy will be totally shocked when this choice doesn’t go over well with anybody.

Green Book would have won Best Picture if not for the controversy!

There are like five films with a realistic shot at winning right now. This has to be one of the most unpredictable Oscar races in recent memory.

Um. Roma is going to win this. Apparently Folks are either putting this as #1 #2 or #3 at the Least

Roma is the frontrunner, but I'm not counting out a Green Book surprise.

Well Bohemian Rhapsody's nomination just got awkward. It's not like you could see the Bryan Singer story coming from miles away or anything.

Roma is probably going to win. Green Book missed out on a Best Director nomination and it wasn't a "directors being bitter at an actor" situation like it was with Ben (and arguably Bradley as well this year).

With Roma winning at the BAFTAs can we call it a day on this amazing Oscar race?

You're a genius

I only got through 20% of the film. I have to restart it from the top.

Roma does fit the theme of the decade. A solid, but extremely forgettable and safe old-timey movie.

I feel sorry for you having to start it over. I'm so glad to be done with it. Took several hours to finish. I took plenty of breaks. It's way too dull to watch straight through.

Here's hoping it doesn't get Picture. I'm predicting Green Book. What was the last Foreign film to win Picture? I feel plenty will be happy with giving it Best Foreign Film and Director but giving something else Best Picture. Doesn't help either that it's a Netflix movie.

I also have a very, very hard time seeing Roma winning the big prize. It just won't.

films I haven't seen
The Favourite, Vice, Bohemian Rhapsody.... none of those 'seem' like Best Picture winners AT ALL

I think it's going to be A Star is Born, with an outside shot at Green Book (backlash against the backlash against the backlash... against the backlash....), with BlackKlansmen as a dark horse (though does it really have the passion?). Even typing that sentence made me realize how stupid this year seems. I guess I'm rooting for BlackKklansmen, which was not perfect, but was riveting, relevant, and superbly balanced entertainment.

I didn't pick the right winner (January 10) but I "called" some things.... ROMA won't win BP, neither will Bohemian Rhapsody or Favourite, and Green Book had a shot despite the online "backlash."
