My impression is Roma is being respected as a technical achievement more than engrossing storyline. One Rottentomatoes review reads "Nothing much happens, yet there is so much to watch." aka cinematography porn but kind of boring. I'd pick A Star Is Born to win with more conventional academy voters |

If Gaga had been winning the comedy/musical actress then maybe there'd be a chance she would lose, but she's going to win Drama at Globes then all the rest will just fall in line. As far as Picture - A Star is Born - no small feature film this time. |

My current guesses, in the order they are likely to win- Black Panther A Star Is Born The Favorite Roma Green Book BlackkKklansman Vice Bohemian Rhapsody Crazy Rich Asians Yes the last two are pretty unlikely, but I think they will get in for two reasons; 1) The oscars are panicking about declining viewership and will favor more popular films this year and 2) Since black people, latinos and women are already decently represented, they will have to make sure there is no backlash from asians and gays. Everybody wins! |

Since 2000. It's 12/18. Gaga loves them odds and you should too. It only helps that she neutralizes the musical/comedy winner at the same time. |

So was Shape of Water (as far as Ensemble which is what counts) and it won Best Picture. It just doesn't have a name cast. None of them are card carrying SAG members. Anyway I'd no longer predict Mary Poppins to get in. Bohemian Rhapsody is though. Also Blunt still could for the film. |

Blunt may sneak in for Actress but Poppins is unlikely to make it into the BP race. Disney is hell bent on putting all their eggs in the Panther basket. |

Bohemian Rhapsody does seem to be ahead of Poppins at this point, though Blunt still is getting in for actress. Weird how there will likely be three big blockbusters nominated this year and it still feels like no one cares |

It would be progress in the realm of what is considered Oscar worthy, but the black cast is not progress, Moonlight had an almost all black cast and won two years ago. |
