I'd root for this, a veteran of the industry liked by both the female and urban demo.

“Look, it’s a gig that has all eyes on it,” says MacFarlane. “And when you’re doing something that’s that much in the spotlight, with that much focus on it, that much intensity, you’re going to have a lot of opinions from a lot of people. I’m trying to think of the last time that I read a review of the Oscars the next day where everyone is raving about it—it’s been a long time.”

Hosting can be a no-win scenario, the entertainment equivalent of Star Trek‘s Kobayashi Maru. “The thing about award shows in general is, it’s kind of a dusty format,” MacFarlane says. “It’s a format that’s about as current as the 1950s variety show format. There’s always an effort to make it interesting and exciting to viewers who are used to a very different entertainment landscape in the modern era, and it’s often times fitting a square peg in a round hole. So it’s not an easy job, and I’m not surprised that they have a tough time finding takers.”

He's right, awards shows came to popularity in a completely different place and time. People are interested in the winners but the ceremony itself bores them and a lot of that negativity is directed towards the host.

Hart, the second highest-paid comedian of 2018, then vowed to never include any offensive material toward the LGBTQ community in any if his comedy acts moving forward.

Sounds like The Oscars will move forward without a host. Great decision, it does not need a host. Someone likable, probably Tom Hanks, will open the show, maybe tell a few jokes and the show will go on as usual. The idea of a host is meaningless. If you aren't going to have a Ricky Gervais roast the pampered, privileged celebs, there's no point. I'm so sick of the pandering.

It really is such an antiquated format, just as much as the late night talk show. It needs major re-tooling, which will never happen because those that work on it only want to continue the traditions they love and grew up with.
