Emma's comment is more proof of why most actors should stick to lines other, more intelligent people have written for them. As for Greta Gerwig and the topic of female directors, the answer is simple: a vastly lower number of women attempt to become film directors than men. Some genders prefer certain professions. It's the same reason why almost all elementary school teachers and human resources professionals are women. |

I liked parts and the essence of the speech Mcdormand gave in this regard. She said that there are women who can tell stories and they should be given opportunities but then went ahead and asked people to call them or come to their office. You don't need validation from others/men of your work. She was correct in saying that there is a potential that people don't recognize today but should soon start thinking. Addressing to the other gender in itself diminishes the whole meaning of that speech. It should have been about look out there is a talent pool among women and if you don't give them opportunities you are missing out something big. |

It was funnier but so bad if that makes any sense. The films nominated were mixed at best gen pop wise. It felt very non event with hollywood getting the chance again to spread the movement in a nonchalant way. |

Just saying on population percentages alone, the amount of Mexican immigrants in the United States is a high percentage of the population and four of the last five directors to win have been Mexican. All is well. Don’t force things. Let them happen |

Del Toro, Cuaron and Inarritu are hardly DREAMers though. They're all from upper crust Mexican elite families, like most big time Hollywood directors are from well-off American families. It's not really "diversity". |

Michelle Yeoh is going to get a best supporting actress nom and based on the box office would not be shocked if she is an early frontrunner here. She still has lots of goodwill from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon as well. |
