I don’t think there will be. It’s gonna be a high honor for a superhero film to be nominated period. It would be ridiculous for it to win.

Since when did the Academy care about that? I mean, I guess the fact that they even came up with the idea of a most popular film category means they care a bit, but every year they nominate and award films that are not truly the best films of the year...it's been a circle jerk for decades.

And one year ago people predicted there would be major backlash if Wonder Woman didn't win and we saw how terrified the academy was of that.

Disney has started campaigning for every category besides Best Actress . There are 10+ choices in the supporting actor categories. :funny:

I think it gets

Picture- win
Director- lose
Supporting Actor- lose
Editing- lose
Sound effects- win both
Costumes- win
Art direction- win
Original song (Pray For Me) - win
FX - lose

Maybe Gurira for Suppt. Actress too if they need her to fill a quota.

I doubt this even gets nominated. The Oscars aren't the Grammys, they can't actually fix the nominations. Yes, they "campaign" and throw dinners and send people gifts and stuff, but at the end of the day the nominees and winners are what people wrote on their ballot. With the Grammys, Globes, and other award shows, there are committees that can overrule ballots and decide things behind the scenes.

Why? Is it really so bad to award a movie that people will still care about by the time next year’s crop of oscar bait comes out.

I challenge you all to name 4 things that happened in either Shape of water, Moonlight, Spotlight, Birdman, 12 Years A Slave, Argo, The Artist or The King’s Speech. I can’t and I enjoyed most of them at the time. These movies are nothing but Pulp for old people.

It wouldn’t be that bad because all the best picture winners of the last few years have been great. It’s moreso because much better popcorn blockbusters haven’t been anywhere near a Best Picture nomination, let alone a win. Tokenism is not a win for anyone.
