Typically, it’s the 16,000-plus DGA voters rewarding the helmers behind big, commercial movies (“The Martian,” “American Sniper,” “Captain Phillips”) while the much smaller academy directors branch (512 active members this year) go for artier dramas (“Room,” “Foxcatcher,” “Nebraska”).

Didn't know the Guild has so many members!

I think these 5 will match the Oscars, with Nolan the one being dropped (since they hate him) if they pick someone else.

Expected 5, Call Me By Your Name and The Post are biggest losers by not making it and are now vulnerable to be BP snub picks

They should still make Best Picture. They weren't expected to make Best Director here and aren't at the Oscars. These should be the Oscar 5.

~_~ Del Toro is one of my favs, but I just don’t think he did anything that impressive with The Shape of Water. If we are gonna forgo the #OscarsSoWhite and #OscarsSoMale narratives then just give it to Nolan dammit.

I blame the #OscarssoAmerican narrative. Dunkirk is too British for America. ;)
