Coco stands no chance but by reviews it should do. I guess it's guaranteed the Best Animated Film gong.

If Meryl Creep wins this year I'll

Oh and I saw an article showing the past NBR best film winners and they have a terrible record at actual BP.

The Oscar race is so crazy and unpredictable this year.

"BP Whisperer" would be a great rank for Magnus.

It would be Crash all over again pretty much. Even if reviews get better they won't reach the high 90's that Lady Bird (which will surely end up like 99% and not 100% at some point), Get Out, and CMBYN will have.

While the correlation between Best Picture and RT score is growing stronger, the number one ranked RT movie has only won twice so far.

2016 - Moonlight - 98% (1st)
2015 - Spotlight - 97% (4th)
2014 - Birdman - 91% (12th)
2013 - 12 Years A Slave - 96% (2nd)
2012 - Argo - 96% (1st)
2011 - The Artist - 96% (2nd)
2010 - The King's Speech - 95% (4th)
2009 - The Hurt Locker - 97% (2nd)
2008 - Slumdog Millionaire - 92% (8th)
2007 - No Country For Old Men - 93% (3rd)
2006 - The Departed - 91% (6th)
2005 - Crash - 75% (-)
2004 - Million Dollar Baby - 91% (13th)
2003 - LOTR: ROTK - 94% (3rd)
2002 - Chicago - 86% (27th)
2001 - A Beautiful Mind - 75% (72nd)
2000 - Gladiator - 76% (47th)

76% for Gladiator?? Who doesn't like Gladiator? That would be a 99% in 2017.

The Post's problem is just bad timing. It came out too late in December, not enough people have seen it to build the proper buzz it needs right now, and it came out when Russiagate and fuck Trump isn't quite at the forefront of statements for the academy to make right now.. I made the "What is the most anti Trump contender this year" in September and picked The Post, but by a few months later after the sexual harassment story it just didn't seem as big a priority to stick it to him. It's also possible that if it came out at the perfect time to capitalize on that story the reviews would have been more rapturous

The Post’s problem is that, at best, its legacy will be as a surprise entry on any future “top 20 best Spielberg films” list.

Sure, in recent years the winners have all been released in October or November, but opening in mid-late December did not hurt Return of the King, Chicago, A Beautiful Mind, and Million Dollar Baby winning Best Picture.

Practically nothing feels like a Best Picture winner this year except maybe Three Billboards. That feels the most like one but I think Get Out will probably win.

I think Get Out will win too. Right now Academy voters are a simmering mass of charged left-wing politics looking to channel all their pent-up frustration, fear, and anxiety into something...it's either Get Out or The Post, and the Actors Guild (the largest) just gave the middle finger to The Post, so Get Out it is.

Get out is gonna win BP without screenplay, actor or director wins? No way

I mean probably not, but this is a very weird, bad year for Hollywood.

Although the more I think about it, if this is 'year of the woman' for Hwood then maybe Lady Bird will win. Greta winning would certainly be a statement. Saorsie seems the frontrunner for Actress. And Original Screenplay is possible too.

Post subject:  Re: The BP Whisperer Speaks: The Post Is Winning

I could go with Ladybird because I don't see The Post winning any big categories either. SS isn't winning director. Streep over Saoirse AND McDormand...only in Hollywood but I just can't believe it. I don't want to hear her rant. Hanks...nope.

One thing is sure, when the Best Picture winner is read out, it will be a surprise. It honestly could go to Call Me By Your Name or Lady Bird or The Post or Dunkirk or Get Out or Three Billboards. Each would be a surprise, and isn't that just great? I love one film not having the edge.

My predictions remain the same:

Three Billboards
Get Out
The Post
Dunkirk
Lady Bird
