There is always this social-political context. Voters who feel uncomfortable with the film's depiction of underage romance in the light of recent scandals will ignore or campaign against the film. Voters who see the film as a statement to challenge society's false presuppositions about underage romance will root for it.

I often have to draw from real life to fully appreciate films just as a writer has to internalize reality in their films. I would not get the humor from Get Out without knowing the fear of police among blacks. I likely would not thoroughly understand the passion between the characters in Call Me by Your Name without any same-sex love experience. So it is subjective and depends on the social-political context and is also about social consensus.
