Post Actors/Directors most overdue for a nomination?
Okay, now there's lots of talk about actors/actresses/directors who are due for a win at last. But what about thespians and directors who haven't even been nominated yet and who are well overdue for their first nom by now?

Actors/Actresses:

Jim Carrey - WAAAYY overdue by now. he deserved noms for The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine, Man on the Moon...and his comedic work was aces as wel. I hope he'll eventually get his due. Really, no other actor working in the business right now is more overdue than him, methinks.

Christian Bale - A young actor who has delivered several top notch turns, most recently in Harsh Times for which he should have been considered by the Academy as well.

Can't think of any overdue actresses right now...

Directors:

Tim Burton - 'nuff said!

John Cusack, I think he has a good chance this year though

Viggo Mortensen - Who also has a solid chance of getting in this year.

David Cronenberg - Again Eastern Promises seems to be getting muich praise and could squeeze Cronenberg in that 5th slot

Jennifer Jason Leigh - has a GREAT chance this year with Margot at the Wedding.

And I second the Cronenberg, Mortenson (these 2 for A History of Violence in particular), Bale and Carrey mentions. And as for Burton... well, wasn't he nominated once? I thought he was... if he wasn't, yeah, top of the list.

Carrey should've won by now, so....

David Fincher as well.

I honestly don't think Carrey will ever win.

Kate Winslet is by far one of the most overdue. Competing with her for the title: JULIANNE MOORE and Patricia Clarkson.

There's one thing I can't stand though: the fact that Reese Witherspoon has one and those three phenomenal women don't. That just blows my mind.

In addition to those mentioned, I'll add Cameron Diaz. Being John Malcovich, There's Something About Mary, Vanilla Sky, Gangs of New York, and In Her Shoes show her excellence.

Shame on me for forgeting David Fincher. He definitely is overdue for some Oscar attention.

Looks like Bale is finally getting his nom this year. And probably a win too.

Fincher has by now been nominated and it should happen to Nolan this year.

But really, how about Cronenberg? I know his stuff is usually not exactly for everyone, but if David Lynch could manage three nominations, then I suppose Cronenberg can get one too.

And damn, seems like Carrey will never get one...

A Dangerous Method could result in Cronenberg's first nomination. It's a period drama. The cast includes Viggo Mortensen (as Freud), Michael Fassbender (as Jung), Keira Knightley, and Vincent Cassel.

I hope Fassbender scores an Oscar nomination this year. He deserved one for Hunger, in my opinion. This year he has not only A Dangerous Method, but also Jane Eyre, Soderbergh's Haywire, and Shame (from the director of Hunger and co-starring Carey Mulligan).

Yeah, but they'll only see that performance if he overdoses between now and December 2011.

No. Would anyone purposefully choose to watch any of those films today? Yes, even Being John Malkovich which masked its inane nature by being masturbatorily abstruse. If Gangs of New York was directed by Michael Apted, would it have garnered any critical support?

Also, and this is the most important thing, Cameron Diaz is ugly and she is playing Seth Rogen's mother in an upcoming film. One can be ugly and succeed if you do not claim to be something that you are not. Cf. Kathy Bates, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep (in the past), and others. One will have less success if you pretend to be attractive and yet are not (and have no talent). For example, Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Aniston, Neve Campbell and others.

Surely you jest! Why The Green Hornet, of course! 'Tis true that I have not yet viewed the film, but who else could she play?

Do you think the little Asian man is Seth Rogen's love interest then?

"[T]he little Asian man" is obviously Kato and I doubt that Sony would make a widely appealing (at least in its view) action film with a homosexual relationship. My point is simply that Cameron Diaz is too old to play the love interest of Seth Rogen. The love interest of Matt Damon? Sure, though he would have to stay in an extended inebriated state. Of course I could be wrong and she and Rogen may have a completely platonic relationship vis-a-vis April O'Neil and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I mean, Diaz did date Justin Timberlake in real life, and JT is just one year older than Rogen so it's not tha crazy.

Didn't he also date Britney Spears? His judgment may be in question. Maybe it is time to get this thread back on topic. So I will stop with the Cameron Diaz bashing.
