Something nobody here has mentioned is the classy way the La La Land people handled such a disappointment on stage.

Everyone except Damien Chazelle. He bolted off the stage pretty quickly.

Can't say I blame him.

and the third producer who made a speech even though he knew he hadn't won, and then flippantly remarked "we lost btw"

I'm just saying, given the shocking turn of events, they could have been a lot more angry and/or resistant than they were to giving it up to the Moonlight folks.

I had a feeling something was going to steal BP once Editing was lost. LLL was already losing a lot of the early ones, it needed Editing to get BP.

Imagine if they had got the envelope for makeup. And the winner, for Best Picture, .... SUICIDE SQUAD!! :funny:

So is Moonlight the blackest winner ever? Most black movies are about slavery or something directly involving white people. Is this the first best picture winner to show black people as regular people?

Reminds me of the Saturday Night Live in Memoriam piece where they showed Jon Lovitz and then cut to him in the audience looking upset

Why? Only one time in the last six years has the editing winner also won best picture. So that rule is losing steam with each decade.

Because it was just another award LLL had lost. The list was piling up. And Editing was a big one.

So apparently Ruiz gave her best actress envelope to leo. Then cullinan gave his dupe envelope to beatty. How both of them aren't running on the stage before anyone from LA La got up there is crazy since both knew what faye said was wrong immediately.

I know Beatty seems to get a free pass since they gave him the wrong envelope, but shouldn't he have just said "Uh, guys... I'm not sure this is the right envelope"? I get it, it's live, millions of people watching, biggest award of the night, lots of pressure. But when you see Emma Stone's name?

And then he just PASSED THE BUCK. Like, "no way am I gonna say this wrong, you do it!".

But at least he stayed out there and owned his mistake.

Bonnie and Clyde helping fuck up the Oscars actually makes sense lol. had it not been their anniversary I wonder who would've presented, surely they would've not let LLL come on stage.

For sure. Part of me thinks he didn't know who the hell Emma Stone is.

I bet they were backstage or at home, but nobody is going to lose face and reputation by being angry ON STAGE.

The "mistake" should help both Moonlight and La La Land in the box office. Because of it, the films have received much more publicity than it would have otherwise with a mistake-free award presentation.

They should also re-release Rules Don't Apply.

I loved Moonlight but was it really worthy to be the first BP for gay subject? I prefer Brokeback Mountain to Moonlight. I am relieved that LLL didn't sweep, 6/14 isn't a huge win specially with no BP in hand.

I am surprised that people are not talking about the look on Denzel's face after Casey mentioned him in his acceptance speech ;)
